Looking for help, the major differences between the '12 Sport S and Sahara?

I'm sitting here staring at 2 4-page printouts from the jeep site with builds for both the Sport S and Sahara and I can't really see major differences, or I do and I just can't tell how important a certain feature is.

A lot of what is lacking on the sport can be made up with options (power convenience for one), but aside from those standard items on the sahara I can't really see what else is missing on the sport that makes it much cheaper than the sahara.

It's going to be a daily drive vehicle with the intention to do very mild trail/off road driving (mostly dirt/desert type stuff). Would the sport s be enough for my purpose?

I've tried to soak up as much jeep knowledge as I can from this site, but I still can't really decipher these build sheets. Any expert knowledge would be appreciated, thanks.

You get the massive 18 inch wheels on the sahara, and bigger 18 inch tires. You get a 110 volt outlet in the center console. You get nicer trim. You also get the chance to order the nav which is not offered on the sport to my knowledge.Very stupid on jeeps part as they are high priced and more people would order if they could. Also you get the stupid silver bumper inserts on the sahara which most don't care for anyway. You also get all the power stuff standard on the sahara. Time you buy a sport and load it up there is not much price difference. Just personal preference I would think.

Sahara has painted fenders and hard top also 18" wheels are main difference. I think the Sahara may have gas shocks also.

Oh and I forgot the matching body colered fenders on the sahara, with the option to order the matching hardtop. Now also avabilable on the rubicon!

Oh yes, the shocks, does anyone know how big of a difference those gas shocks make to the comfortability of the ride?

I have a couple cross continent road trips on my to-do list in the future and I can't think of anything worse than a stiff ride. I did test drive a 4 door sahara (just for some sort of reference, since they didn't have a 2 door on the lot) and it was really smooth. If the sport is uncomfortable for a long haul that might be an unfortunate deal breaker :/

Edit: also thanks both of you for your replies

Substantial, but it's not like the Sport is uncomfortable. Comparable shocks to what are on te Rubi/Sahara are about $80 each. Shocks comparable to what comes with the sport are about $30 to $40.

FYI though, you can usually pick up the Sahara/Rubi gas shocks off of Craigslist for cheap whenever some local guy adds a lift.

Saharas are good for crawling malls and local soccer fields.

I'm trying to make a list of items myself, here is what the Sahara has over the Sport S:
Painted fenders
Option for painted top
Option for Nav
Option for leather
Option for remote start
Option for black/saddle interior (Sport S only offers black)
Opton for climate control
Gas shocks
Silver bumper inserts
Automatic headlights
115v outlet
Tube side steps (Optional on Sport S)
18 inch wheels (instead of 17 inch)
Infinty speakers and sub (Optional on Sport S)
Sirius (Optional on Sport S)
Different interior accents

Depending on how you want your Wrangler....a good chunk of that stuff may be useless and not worth the upgrade cost.

For me, the biggest bonus in the Sahara is the abilty to get leather (with saddle interior and built in heater) for 2% below invoice (invoice price is $801), along with the 115v outlet and gas shocks. Depending on the color of the Jeep, everything else I could live without or add as options. I'm looking at both models now that I have scratched the painted hardtop off of my list do to the over inflated cost.

We wrestled with the same decision. Wanted some stuff that just wasn't available on the Sport - remote start, black leather, heated seats - but didn't want the Sahara price. Dealer-installed extras for heated leather and remote start were more expensive than factory-order option pricing on Sahara, but overall price for the optioned-up Sport S was a couple grand less the Sahara would have been.
