Looking for some info...

I own a 2003 Wrangler X and am in the process of getting it sold... hopefully. I just got a new job and with it I will have things in my Jeep (gun, BP vest, laptop) that I need to STAY in my Jeep while parking in some less than savory areas. I've decided to get a 4 door with a hard top. Still in between an X or Sahara, but that I can decide later.

My question is New or Used? I see on the Jeep website that they have cash allowance, employee pricing, low interest rates, and free hugs for buying new. The Used Jeeps I'm looking at are around 20K... so would it be better to just get a new one with all the perks from our struggling economy?

Sorry for the long post, but I need to make a decision... have a guy looking at my Jeep this weekend!

Thanks in advance!

I am in the process of making a similar decision. This is how I am looking at it:

Low interest, they are willing to wheel and deal and employee pricing ++...on top of that you get a lifetime powertrain warranty...what's not to like?

Once I get my Escape sold I am going to find me a jeep.

I just bought mine new- MSRP 29120 (09 Sahara, duel tops, remote start, etc) and I got it out the door for 21-something. Plus it comes with the 3/36 and the lifetime powertrain, it ended up being a way better deal in the end.

As a salesman, let me tell you this- you'd be a dope NOT to buy new! You may save a buck or two up front, BUT, you pass upthe lifetime warranty (it's non-transferrable, despite what the seller may tell you), you get more miles and possible problems/abuse from the old owner, and you get a car someone else already has used (backseat may be, dirty )
Get a new one with the options YOU want, in the color YOU want, and rock it YOUR way Cheers, and enjoy- Mark W.

10 minutes after driving an 05 used Rubi that the dealer wouldn't come down past $16k+, I went to a new dealer and was in the process of buying my new 09 Rubi. Just ordered it last week, so you know what I am tellin you.

i never thought i would buy anything new, but, with 190k on my 13 year old explorer (which i loved), i felt that now was the time to buy.
made a pro-active decision, got what i could afford, (basic x 2 door)

for everything written above, buy it new. we all (at least i did) went through the same thought process as you are right now.

How much is that lifetime warranty costing people? I passed on it as the dealer wanted $2995!

I had never bought new either but the prices are way too good to pass up and with 0% it is cheaper than used. Since I keep cars forever I got the lifetime warranty. I wouldn't have gotten it if I didn't plan on keeping the jeep for 10 plus years. Plus, even if Chrysler goes down someone will keep jeep going. It is too good a brand. I haven't liked a car this much since my 1976 IH Scout II...

I got a top end 08 Rubicon and paid full price before the banking crisis hit. The prices being reported in this thread make me drool. I am totally satisfied with my vehicle and am not one to look back. I got an extended warranty 7 year 100,000 mile but not from Chrysler. I got the warranty because I always keep my vehicles a long time. Average ownership time for me is 7 to 10 years. I want as trouble free ownership as possible. My wife's PT cruiser had so many parts put into it under warranty, it is almost a new car. Hope that her car is more trouble free now that the warranty is over. Here is a twist. My dealer had a tires for life of the vehicle offer on when I purchased. Even if I only get one set of tires out of that offer, it will be a good deal. I teach and am not into working on my own vehicle so that is why I'm into the warranty thing. By the time my warranty runs out, I will be close to retirement. Maybe then I'll be back into working on the vehicle. Time will tell.

Good luck on your purchase. Then join the love fest back on this site and give us all the details.
