Looking for virtually indistructable bumper

Ok.... Well the forum search is still on the fritz so I will ask this here and if someone knows chime in please......

Anyway after looking around, Rock Hard seems to make a rather indestructible bumper but I wonder if there is anything better durability wise without making my own.....

I realize that you cant just drive into a tree at 40mph regardless but what about 20mph into tree???? If necessary I would be willing to reinforce the frame a bit since I'm sure there is some crush zone in there so you don't kill the other drivers on the road in a crash...... But if I had my way no one would get hurt but neither would my jeep.....

Obviously if I am going to get a winch I want to be able to hang off a cliff with it so this bumper will need to be able to handle that as well If it cant I don't want it......

The winch I can find myself since there is sufficient data out there ....the bumpers (front and back) are not so easy.... No one has any weight ratings on them and there is virtually no data on them anywhere...
I can calculate it off the frame mounts, bolts, and so on but that doesn't account for the strength or weakness of the winch plate on the bumper or the construction of the bumper itself....

Thanks for any input -Steve

If I wanted a Death Race zombie-killer, I'd get a Nate's 4x4 bumper.

The d-ring mounts are now at the frame rails; you get the idea though.

I looked at it online, read some reviews, and the price is nice but I'm not waiting 2-3 months to get it to save a couple $$..... And once again its 3/16 rolled steel im thinking 1/4in minimum.....
If this would fit I would have it..... I wanted a Duce but it wont fit in the driveway....
I have a lot of zombies to kill

Well I'm either going with Rock Hard at this point or gonna fab one myself....
I just don't really have time, I would rather be out cruising around than in the garage scrubbing spatter off a bumper......

I will say that some of this cottage industry stuff needs some refinement.... no one seems to actually have a load rating for any of their bumpers.....
I guess I'm just too picky.... all the surplus Duce parts have a spec sheet and ratings..... all the high performance car parts have spec sheets and ratings....

NONE of the Jeep parts have anything, you are lucky to get dimensions for winch fitment..... Maybe they could throw the CAD sheets or a rough guesstimate out on their sites.....

Kennesaw Mountain will build anything you want, any way you want.
I've seen their work and it's top quality.

I did see LoD in searching, I wonder what they can do custom wise I definitely like their full width front as far as looks go...
Good to hear everyone (the Jeep and yourself at least ) were ok after being rear ended twice....
That is one of the reasons I bought a Jeep, A friend of mine was rear ended at 30 mph and it did $2500 in damage to his VW....
I'll have to contact them as well....Thanks Mark

you could go with a sweet wooden bumper like this idio....err guy. it's not indestructible, but you could give a zombie some nasty splinters.

I want a "Death Race zombie-killer" love the idea.

I could put some impalers on there for the deer up here in Michigan. I could hit 'em and gut 'em all at the same time! Get out of the jeep, grab up the backstraps off the hood and throw 'em on the grill!!!

Wood Maybe he wants a renewable bumper???? what is that thing good for besides nothing......

As for the spikes or what not.... is it legal to have like 4" sharpened spikes on there??? I could go for some deer jerky out of season.... If we can't shoot em, run em down with the jeep....

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the frame 3/16", I know the YJ is 1/8" and the TJ is 3/16". How thick is the JK frame? Still, having the bumper that connects to both frame rails would benefit greatlly with 1/4 over 3/16, as it should strengthen the frame rails connecting them like that. You should check how your rear crossmember is connected. On a TJ the rear bumper connects to the 3/16" plate crossmember which I know from experience doesn't handle well unless you have a frame tie in kit. I plan on cutting it out and replacing it with 1/4 plate.

That's why I included the link. It only showed up as a "JK" though ---- and this dang site doesn't allow me to edit after a short time.

I know some people with their work on their Tacomas; let me see if I can find a picture... ...Daniel has one...

Well.... to be honest I haven't pulled the stock bumper yet so I don't know what the JK frame is or what the plates are......
I would guess 3/16".... I still plan to improve the frame so I'm not concerned in that regard....

I need to see what it is going to take to brace the entire frame front to back..... I actually thought about replacing the frame rails completely and then adding cross bracing... but It looks like a pain in the a$$....

I'm thinking of EMP shielding the whole electrical system too.....
In the end it will be a true doomsday device.....

Worried about a low-altitude thermonuclear detonation, are we?

Get a Mog. Delightfully devoid of electronic gremlin fodder.

I have a tiny driveway (townhouse) and it won't fit, I would love to have a Mog or a Duce but they are just too long....

I know where you can get a 404 like this beige one for $3000 ----- needs a clutch though. Not a pretty job.
They're not all that big. The red one is a 1300L and is quite a bit bigger.
