I paid about $800 for this Rugged Ridge stubby, hoop, & Smittybilt XRC8 Comp winch. 4Wheel Parts during a sale.

thats actually the bumper i want to get as well but maybe with the added "wings" on the side...

general note for winches, you always get a weight rating that is X1.5 your vehicle weight at the minimal. ie. if you have a 3000 lb jeep you need a 4500 winch. i have a 9500 on my yj

warn is top notch, i have heard of some great deals on them but you have to watch and wait for a time to strike, if you dont have the time and plan on buying new, milemarker is a good winch but its slow on the pull (what i own) and they are pretty cheap. super winch is a good brand and for the price is hard to beat. a warn 8274 would be ideal whether new or rebuilt (they can get expensive but the best winch and fastest line spead out there)

thats about all i know. there are other brands but i dont have any experience with them.

and there are ALOT of winch bumpers out there... most of which work perfectly well, mostly just a design aspect or looks for you...

I just heard that Mile Marker is running a sale and their 8k winches are down to 300 bucks just like the Smittybilt XRC.

Mile Marker used to make the XRC8 but got fired from sourcing after reliability issues. I don't remember who makes them now.
The hp went up in the new iterations as a result.

Thanks for the information and pic. I saw a pic of one I really liked awhile back and i'll be damned if I can find it now but it was a full width bumper not a stubby and I don't think it had any kind of hoop.

Do you all think the Warn in the long run, asking since I plan on having this a very long time, is worth the extra money????

What's the install on something like this? It seems as though it would be pretty straight forward or is it a royal pain in the arse???

Thanks

Installs are easy and a Warn will last 30 years if you tend it properly.

Expedition One Basic DX with "side wings"
XRC8
around $600 total (I did get a hella deal on the bumper, might be closer to $800 retail after you throw in shipping, lights, etc)

I love it. It's lightweight, functional, retains use of OEM hooks and has shackle mounts for winchin. Oh and the end caps are bolt-on so it is modular as well.

Does the extra weight of the winch cause the front end to sag much???

I added a half inch spacer to my front to level it out after winch and bumper install. Wish i added a 1 inch spacer instead.
