I'm very happy with the Alpine sound system. As for pricing, see the 2015 waiting room thread with info on how to sign up for Chrysler Affiliates pricing.
Most have been happy with the Alpine upgrade and you can still do some tweaking to it if you want to later on.
We have a local dealer that takes $3k off of sticker without any haggling... Some people get better, but you should be able to get there without any trouble.
The Dealer should be willing (these days) to go invoice on a deal. Another "round number" is approx. 10% off of MSRP so, $3k off a $30k Jeep.
Good luck and the Alpine speakers (I wouldn't spring for the HU's) are a nice addition.
I ended up buying my JKUR off the lot. I wanted the 9 speaker system and it had the base model 8. I wish it had the better system. Cranked up the 8 speaker system highs are a little 'tinny' and the base is not very rich. I wil probably have to upgrade it.
Think about this...the 430n head unit and the Apline speakers is right at $2100. You can get an awesome better sounding system aftermarket most likely. I tried out the Apline system last week and honestly was very disappointed. I was hoping it would be about as good as the factory system in my 2014 Grand Cherokee....nope not close.
Coming from someone who does not have the alpine system here. I would definitely no questions asked upgrade to the alpine the stock radio is awful. Guarantee if you don't you will be doing what I am doing trolling forums to see what is the most economical way to upgrade your system.
I'm over dealing with car audio installs. It's not difficult by any means but the Alpine has great sound and the only aftermarket deck I'd consider is Kenwood (Garmin gps) and I don't feel like spending a pile of money on adaptors to keep accessories working. I did the factory-like deck swap on my Silverado (as in no additional modules needed) and it was a POS. Chinese no name crap like all of them.
If you are a true audiophile and don't mind ripping everything out and starting from scratch, you can do better, but you'll spend more than the price of the Alpine. If you like some extra foundation in your music and don't need the nth degree of performance, the Alpine is not bad. Plus it's covered under your warranty! I'm glad I sprang for it every time I turn it on.
i am a new Jeeper. Just bought a JKU with the Alpine and the 130 radio. I am a self-described gadget geek, but didn't want to spend the extra for the Nav gear that Jeep sells. The Alpine system sounds great, even with "just" the 130! You could possibly re-create it or exceed it dollar- for- dollar with aftermarket stuff; but I prefer the connectivity of the stock system with the steering wheel controls, etc.
Also, it is good to know that the subwoofer is not afraid of the elements
It has enough volume but the base is a bit overwhelming. The term that has been kicked around is that it sounds a bit muddled. Meaning hard to make out vocals and clear. I was going to do some mods to it but my audio guy said that you can't just make simple changes to the system. We Put the base like at -6 and moved the mid and treble up and increased the sound output to favor the front speakers +3 and now it is much better.
I didn't want the Alpine system but must say its the best sounding car stereo I've ever had. I got it because it was the only thing that wasn't perfect about the Willy's I found.
The Connectivity group is standard on the Willys package.
Having said that, I'd definitely recommend the Alpine upgrade. I ordered my Willys vs. buying one off the lot strictly because I wanted the Alpine system. I'm very pleased with it. I only have the base head unit (130) so I don't know if any of the other systems have an effect on the sound quality.
Regarding sound quality, others here have commented, and I have found to be true also, that your sound quality depends a great deal on your source media. Satellite does not sound very good, IMO. It sounds muddy and too bassy. Playing songs off my USB , some of it sounds great and some not so great, but I think this also depends on the quality of the original source I ripped the files from....some is transferred directly from CD's, some is stuff I downloaded from iTunes, and some I got from a DJ buddy's extensive collection, with a corresponding variability in sound quality.
Good point Chief, I don't even bother cranking it up unless I'm playing an original CD. I'm sure a un compressed lossles digital file would also sound great.
Ran a little test tonight with some CDs and a DVD instead of the compressed iPod music I usually play. Classical symphony, piano, jazz to test some treble/midrange and a DVD I knew woud give me some good bass and get the sub going.
Noticeable difference and sounded fantastic.
I know you can put together aftermarket systems that are great, but this is really good to my ear and pushing the volume up was no problem to get the inside of the garage rocking.
Did a double check on the Grand Cherokee. Needs more volume because of speaker placement, and sounds great, but my ear still loves the Alpine in the Willys, although I am biased.
