Losing OIL ?

Hey all . Not sure if anybody is aware of this ... My 09 and my brothers
08 ' goes through about 1 quart of oil every 1500 miles. Something to keep an eye on. There are no leaks at all. FYI.. Dealership says this can be normal and there is not any problems to worry about.

Thats a lot of oil for a newer engine be going through, my '98 doesn't burn a drop in comparison. I have heard of this before, the oil level warning lamp won't come on until it's too late as well so be vigilante in checking your oil level.

Take a look here: (http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/jee...ion-82167.html).

I don't burn any at all thus far, but it appears I may just be fortunate. If it makes any difference to you I run synthetic, which you might want to try to see if it helps.

It's not an "oil level warning light". It's a you're out of oil and you're totally effed light.

My wife's 07 Grand Caravan has the 3.8 and it burns oil. It has since low miles, about 1.5 quart in 3,000 miles.
I've used synthetic oil in it before, but last time I filled it with Valvoline full synthetic and it has not used any so far, about 1,000 miles since change.

You might try synthetic, and / or different synthetics to see if one is more resistant to burn off than others.

I'm running the same Valvoline full synthetic in my 2010 Wrangler and it doesn't appear to be burning any.

Oil changes at 6,000 miles? No way! My goal is for the motor to last as long as possible, not the oil.

I lost about .5Q every 6k miles. But more this last time because my oil filter was leaking.
I'm a 09 JK owner that does not have crazy oil problems. Diffs are okay. Engine oil is okay. Tranny fluid is good enough for now. The only thing I need to replace because it gets kinda nasty often is my air filter. Which reminds me, I need to tend to that next paycheck. Eek.

My '07 with 22k uses about 1/2 qt every 1000 miles, but after reading several threads on this subject in the forum, I figure that is about average. some worse and some better, at this time I am getting the changes done at the dealer (about $12/change, real good deal because of the auto show special) So I don't know what kinda oil they are using. I'll just keep my eye on it between changes.

07 with only 22k? How do you do it?! I've got 34 on mine and I've had her for just about two years... :/

It's not "normal" for an engine to burn oil these days...which indicates there is an issue causing the engine to burn it. Personally, I believe it has to do with how the engine was broken in when it was new. The first 1100 miles are super important in ensuring the engine is properly broken in. I have a set routine I follow on every new engine I break in, and luckily have yet to have any problems. Can't say for sure though, this is my first Jeep experience.

My '08 JKU has a little over 10,000 miles and most of them are off-road, maybe 10% hiway !!

I change my í08 every 3,000 miles with Penzoil 5w-20, and in that period it doesnít use any oil. I broke in the engine according to the Owners Manual. I have about 26K miles on the odometer.

My Jeep isnít a DD, I only drive it to the trail, drive the trail, and drive home. Even with that driving I canít get even 50% trail driving as the trails here are a lot shorter than the road/freeway that I have to drive to get there. The closest trail to my house is about 20 miles away and is about 5 miles long. The furthest trails (so far) were up in Ouray Colorado (about 550 miles each way). We were there for just about a week and probably drove 150 miles of trails, and will be going back again this year.

1 quart every 2,000 miles since it was new. I have 50,000 on it now. The only exception is when I had the oil changed at a dealer in Florida and it went almost 4000 before I had to add a quart. I just make a habit of checking the oil at fill-ups.

I just bought the machine, certified used I have only put about 1k on her. Although I will most likely only put about 12k per year on her, I split my miles up between the Jeep/bike/classic car. Sure hope to do a Jeep Jamboree this year will probably be the only offroading I am able to do.

If you've only put 1000 miles on your jeep that pretty hard to get an accurate idea of how much oil you're using.

Maybe so, but when I bought it, it had a fresh change at the dealer. It was full when I brought it home. 1000 miles later, I had to add 1/2 quart.

Correction: it has been 2,000 miles since that oil change and it's maybe used 1/2 quart.
