Lots of glass stone chips

There are an absolute sh!t ton of tiny stone ships on my windshield from salt. Is there anything I can do? Obviously It's not worth the money to get them all filled in and they are tiny, but is there a wipe on filler?

I have quite a few also, albeit not a spec of salt in sight around here. Unless we're talking about the beach.

Thankfully none have become full-on chips so I'm counting my blessings.

You can get them filled but they need to be a certain depth for that to even be useful and advantageous. Otherwise they're just cosmetic blemishes.

There's only one actual chip that needs a full repair, the rest just cloud my vision and get annoying. It looks like someone took a paint marker and put tiny specs on my windshield all over the place

I knew these shields were sh/t, hit a branch in my ex's and completely blew the whole out. But never imagined salt would completely destroy it

Its a pretty upright glass guys. Mine has some pits on it too much more then anything else I've had. Lucky I don't drive I nto the sun regularly. If it gets that bad I will do the glass.

Have you tried polish? There are lots of them out there, this is just one of many - Pro Glass Polishing Kit

Worst that will happen is you still buy a new windshield.

I have a buddy with a '12 JKU and is currently on his 3rd windshield!!! He's gotten cracks in the first 2, one crack going almost 3/4s of the way across.

Is there some kind of film we can get to put on the outside of the windshield that would protect it? I have a clear skin on my iphone and it prevents scratches better than just the bare screen.

Chips from salt? Wow, never would have imagined that. I have had my JKU Sahara through 2 MI winters and I drive from Petersburg (about 30 mins south of Ann Arbor) up to Farmington Hills everyday (that is about 125 miles a day) and mine didn't get any chips from salt.

i live in dexter, 15 minutes outside of ann arbor. i work 11's and 12's so everytime i get out on the road is either for the morning salt or the evening salt, got stuck behind a few salt truck this year and its the only thing i can think of that would do that damage, heard it pelt my shield everytime i drove behind one, even at 100+ feet and didnt think anything of it but now its just peppered with tiny pits. sucks because i only bought it in november

I fill the small ones with nail polish. I put a small blob, let it dry, then i clean up the area around the chip with nail polish remover and a qtip, then i even it out with a razor blade. Yes they dont dissapear entirely, but i'm yet to have any of them spread, or the polish fall off or crack, even in the frigid canadian winter.

I had two small rocks spun up on the highway from a truck in front of me about 2-3 weeks after I bought my 2013. I first thought it was chipped after hearing the smack, but I checked the windshield after arriving to my destination that night I thought I was ok. The next morning I checked again in the light, I caught a rock under the wiper and it cracked under the blade overnight. It had already run 3 inches when I found it in the morning and by the time I got over to the shop it when 6 inches long. I knew it was a goner. The guy felt bad though and said he would go ahead and try to fill it anyhow, after all, it was going to need replacing at some point now. He filled it ok, it almost disappeared except for the middle section. A few weeks later I ran the defrost and heard a pop. There was a hairline crack in the middle section and it opped sideways. The next ten minutes I watched it run from the middle of the driver's side wiper, about 3 inches above the wiper blade to the lower passenger side corner where is ran out of glass. It's been that way ever since. Around here a crack that is out of vision is a blessing in disguise. I have had a few rock hits since with no issue, I will wait it out as long as possible.

Nice idea, too high in price, for $23 more I can buy a new windshield though. If it was $50 I would buy it.

Hmm. Tempting, but it says it only goes up to the 2011 models. Is there a difference in the windshield between the 2011 and 2012 models?

Anybody ever try this on their windshield? Does it really prevent the chips and/or cracking?

What he said! I just had my windshield replaced, and went cheap, no cool little Jeeps on it. OEM shield about $350-450, generic shield $150.
I kick myself every time I hear something hit my windshield. (I was offered windshield insurance for $350 at time of purchase, but declined it)

Maybe this is a New York thing, but windshield replacement is covered under comp insurance 100%, with no out-of-pocket or deductible payment. I've had several windshields replaced on multiple vehicles at no cost to me.

Lol! I was just about to order this and you reminded me that I have glass coverage. You just saved me some $$ ~ thanks! :-)

Try using Locktite wicking grade thread locker. I got a crack in my Motor Home windshield and I used this and it stopped the crack from getting any bigger. I dont know if it would work with a stone chip but it might be worth a try. I had a Locktite company rep. give a demonstration of how the wicking grade works by clamping 2 pieces of glass together and applying one drop on the seam of the glass and you could see it get pulled between the glass.

Two days ago I heard a rock hit my windshield and didn't see any chips visible. Two days later a crack showed up drivers side about six inches up. I replaced the windshield this morning at 8 am for $225.00. I went to work for a few hours and at 1 pm driving to a doctors appointment I heard another rock hit my windshield. There is a small scratch not a chip but afraid it will run. I called insurance company and they are going to repair it for free and informed me that windshield replacement is a $50 deductible. So $50 for a new windshield isn't bad at all.

I'm in mass and have full glass, they fix or replace for free. Already had two fixed within two weeks of each other. One on each side towards the tops.
