Search you tube. There is a good video on there about changing the ball joints on the jk. They list the parts/ tools needed. And you more then likely will just need to buy the ball joint press from harbor freight.

google "Jeep JK/JKU Ball joint replace"--pages of info and

Don't replace JUST THE BOTTOM--do all four/have done if you haven't got the desire to doit

I recommend Synergy HD greaseable replacement Ball Joints for the JK/JKU-
google them for prices/avail and they aren't adjustable--the NEED for those is rare-price should be under $300 bucks and they are SUPER-

Good luck

JIMBO

JIMBO is right on when he says the need is RARE. Unless there are a lot of rough miles on that JKU, you should get a second opinion on your front end problems.

I think Jim may have been referring to the Synergy BJs lack of adjustment.

Synergy BJs are a zero degree offset BJ (just like stock), i.e. no adjustment. I'm guessing the OP's mechanic is suggesting some uppers with an offset to address a camber issue. As far as I know there are no JK ball joints with a non zero degree offset available.

TJ D30/D44 upper ball joints are actually the same as JK uppers but the lowers have a different taper. The lowers look the same eyeballing them but the taper is not correct on the knuckle. In theory you could mix and match TJ/JK uppers and lowers but I think that would be asking for trouble. If your camber is off there are other ways to address that.

Shot ball joints on an 07 is very common and BJs are relativity easy to swap with the right tools.

These are the videos Jim mentioned showing how to remove and re-install the Synergy BJs.

The lowers are easy and the uppers are a bit harder (some people use the work b*tch ), take your time you should be fine.

I believe Synergy are out of stock of HD BJs until the end of the month. If you need some sooner EAD has them in-stock with free shipping. Synergy Suspension Jeep JK Heavy Duty Front Ball Joints Set

The knuckles on the front axles are the same on all JKs 07-12. The Synergy JK BJs fit D30 or D44 Rubicon. The upper BJ is also the same part number as the pre 2007 D30 or D44.

BJ-3134D = JK/TJ/LJ/YJ/XJ/ZJ single upper
BJ-3161A = JK - single lower
BJ-3171A = TJ/LJ/YJ/XJ/ZJ single lower

PPM-8009-12-01 = JK - 1 upper and 1 lower
PPM-4120-01 = TJ/LJ/YJ/XJ/ZJ - 1 upper and 1 lower
PPM-8009-12-02 - Replacement Boots - fit all of the above.

Send a message via Yahoo to SilverSport
Raybestos makes adjustable BJs for the JKs. Available through NAPA and Rock Auto.
