Looking at changing to a set of 305/55/r20 Terra Grappler G2's
Jeep has Lt's on it now but was thinking P would ride better is this ok or would I be better of to stick with Lt's which are cheaper

Thanks

The load rating of the stock tire is about 2400 lbs and is a LT tire. When moving to a P tire you want a tire that has about 10% more load rating than a LT or around 2600 lbs. Both tires you are looking at have a higher rating than 2600 lbs and the P should ride better than the LT.

As long as no hardcore off roading is being done or loading the jeep with a ton of bricks the P tire will be fine.

OK if not wheeling, it feels weird to say to run P tires in a Jeep, lol.

I think it depends on where and how you plan to wheel it as well. Like my local America's Tire (DTD local chain store) told me once when I was talking to them about different tires. Just because something will rip open a P metric doesn't mean it won't do the same thing to an E rated.

It seems to be more about the construction than how much of a load it can haul. Someone around here mentioned the other day that C rated Nitto's are a stiffer (and maybe thicker?) sidewall than D rated Duratracs which tells me they would handle tougher terrain even though you couldn't haul as much weight with them.

I think people seem to say E rated just because you know it's a tougher sidewall, but everything I've read about E rated stuff (ride quality, etc.) tells me to try to avoid them when possible, but in the larger tire sizes that's really hard. I was actually going to go with a P rated Terra Grappler G2 for instance when I was planning to go 285/70/17 (before the ridge grapplers were out) because most of my driving is roads and when I'm offroad it's forest road, dirt trails, etc. I'm not out hitting Rubicon or Fordyce level stuff every weekend.
