Make U-Connect work for Mygig Radio for $30!!!

What a scam. I have the Mygig radio and the u-connect and bluetooth buttons would say "u-connect not installed" when I would push the buttons. I called the dealer to ask if they could activate these features, here is what I walked away with:

@200 for the u-connect module
@200 for labor to install

Here is what I did - went to ebay and orderd a Mopar mic for the Mygig radio for $30 dollars, installed, and changed the settings to "activate" u-connect in the Mygig radio engineering settings. What a "spanking" from the dealer.

For all those jeeps with u-connect not working - DO not use a dealership!!!!

To activate u-connect - Press and hold seek up and down and menu buttons to enter "engineering mode" - go down to the bottom and activate JK mode.

Install of the mic was really easy - just plug in the back of your radio (only one place it can go). If you need help removing the radio, let me know and I will post that info.

What is the "mygig radio". I have a 08 JKU with sat/CD/MP3. Is that what your calling a mygig? If so how do you take out the radio?

MyGig is what used to be known as the RER radio, or the one with navigation. You can find removal instructions here:

I'm very excited about this actually. Does anybody know if it works with the REQ radio from 2010? It looks like the attached picture. If so, you'd totally be my hero for the day--it's not cool trying to answer the phone while driving a stick shift.

From what I know, the RER has the uConnect built in already which allows you to use the bluetooth. However, the REQ doesn't have it, it is an external unit that you have to buy and add to it.

Sorry to spoil your day.

I don't suppose the fact that the REQ has a U-Connect button on it already helps my case at all? It even gives that same error message--"u-connect not installed"--when I push it.

You are SOL. You need the module. It's $157 at the dealer. They will install it for $200. If you install it yourself, you'll still need them to flash your computer for $100. I had them install one in my Libery and my Wrangler. I couldn't be happier with the results. It was well worth it to me.

Well, I just installed mine above the mirror, thought that both the passenger and driver could speak. I noticed the factory install is just to the left of the driver visor.

While I was calling everyone yesterday checking out the functionality of the system, not many people could hear me at highway speeds. When I got home, I move it over to the left and mounted it about where the factory mic's are placed.

I'll give an update on that location after testing later today!!

Right - mine was the RER - with GPS - hard drive (music) - and the U-connect is apparently built in. I don't know what to say about the other units.

that will be somewhat handy, how do I go about getting my phone to work with it then? I just noticed the mics are being put by the visors, are they wireless? if not would'nt it be alot easier to just mount the mic close to the radio, or won't this work as good

They are no wireless. Mine is on the A pillar. You can't see the wire. There are voice commands to pair your phone with the uconnect.

I've seen people mount the right under the radio. I dunno how to get the wire all the way across to the pillar.

Just connect an audio cable to ur phone then plug it in the AUX of ur REQ, thats all what u need for talking on the phone while using the stick freely, u will be using ur car's speakers to hear what ppl on the phone say & for sure you need to use the mic on the phone to talk to them so its better if you place it closely enough.

Hope that helped you a little.

Yeah, I tried that out. Does it work for you? My iPhone 3GS doesn't do so well with that set up--the mic isn't sensitive enough unless you put it on speakerphone, but when you do that the audio doesn't come through the car speakers. Good thought though.

Try different phones, there might be a problem with ur iphone or its just that the iphone doesnt work nicely that way, I think it would be better if u use other phones to make sure where the problem is from. Im using the Nokia E 51 & its fine in speeds below 60 m/h.

So don't mean to be really slow, but, just joined this conversation....
my question is "Is all you need the Microphone, plug it in and go to the
engineering mode???? Have read about the Lockpick, so I'm confused whether or not I need that. Thanks

Also, look at the bottom right of the unit faceplate, right below the aux jack. You will see the 3 Letter designation for your head unit.

This is awesome, I just did the seek menu buttons and enabled it. I am going to order the mic right now but may need some guidance on how to take the unit out and hook up the mic. Can you message me step by step instructions?

This thread is over a year old and the OP hasn't been on the forum in several months.

I just bought a 2008 with an RER MYGIG. I TRIED the engineering mode procedure but there did not seem to be an option to activate "anything" there. Anyone got some details for this?
