Post Manual Programming Features with Sequences - Enable / Disable

Most of this information comes from the 2012 4th Edition User Guide PDF. These program sequences should work with almost any JK. It seemed to be a nice idea to have them all in one place where you can easily run through them. I did my best to put the section and page number from where the feature sequence was found in the manual, or my source. There are some programming features that are now being left out of the user manual (like remove the door chime reminder). I did my best to find those to make this more complete.

NOTE: Most of these sequences are set to toggle. So just do it a second time to reset it.

GOT A CHILD SEAT-56

Automatic Locking Retractor Mode (ALR) — If

Equipped

In this mode, the shoulder belt is automatically prelocked.
The belt will still retract to remove any slack in
the shoulder belt. The Automatic Locking Mode is available
on all passenger-seating positions with a combination
lap/shoulder belt. Use the Automatic Locking Mode
anytime a child safety seat is installed in a seating
position that has a belt with this feature. Children
12 years old and under should always be properly
restrained in the rear seat.
How To Engage The Automatic Locking Mode

1. Buckle the combination lap and shoulder belt.
2. Grasp the shoulder portion and pull downward until
the entire belt is extracted.
3. Allow the belt to retract. As the belt retracts, you will
hear a clicking sound. This indicates the safety belt is
now in the Automatic Locking Mode.
How To Disengage The Automatic Locking Mode

Unbuckle the combination lap/shoulder belt and allow it
to retract completely to disengage the Automatic Locking
Mode and activate the vehicle sensitive (emergency)
locking mode.

Customer Key Programming - 18 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE
If you have two valid Sentry Keys_, you can program
new Sentry Keys_ to the system by performing the
following procedure:
1. Cut the additional Sentry Key_ Transponder blank(s)
to match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.
2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn
the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position for at least
three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Then, turn
the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the
first key.
3. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within
15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound. In
addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and
remove the second key.
4. Insert a blank Sentry Key_ into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within
60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound.
In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing.
To indicate that programming is complete, the Vehicle
Security Light will turn on again for three seconds and
then turn off.
The new Sentry Key_ is programmed. The Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter will also be programmed

during this procedure.

Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys. If you
do not have a programmed Sentry Key_, contact your
authorized dealer for details.
NOTE:If a programmed key is lost, see your authorized
dealer to have all remaining keys erased from the system’s
memory. This will prevent the lost key from
starting your vehicle. The remaining keys must then be
reprogrammed. All vehicle keys must be taken to an
authorized dealer at the time of service to be
reprogrammed.

How To Read DTC Error Codes - From Link -> Disable/Enable feature codes/sequences - Page 3

1. To check your Jeep JK Wrangler’s DTC codes, simply insert your key into the ignition, turn it to the ‘ON’ position but do not start the engine. Then, push the key into the ignition cylinder and while holding it in, turn it to the ‘OFF’ position and then back to the ‘ON’ position (3) times straight making sure to end with it in the ‘ON’ position. It is important to keep pushing in on the key to prevent it from catching at the different positions along the way.

2. If you do step #1 correctly, all your dash lights will illuminate and your odometer will show up as a series of (6) dashes. If your Jeep JK Wrangler has logged any DTC’s, they will be displayed soon after the dashes appear. Write down the DTC(s).
3. If your Jeep JK Wrangler has not logged any DTC’s, the dashes on your odometer will be followed by the message ‘-done-’. Turn your key to the ‘OFF’ position and you will in fact be done.

A list of these codes can be found here Jeep OBDII Scan Codes
A list of DTC codes can also be found here Disable/Enable feature codes/sequences - Page 4

thanks for the write-up! i just pulled it up on my phone and hopped in my jeep and ran through them. no more WHY AM I NOT THROWING MUD ON THESE PEOPLE BEHIND ME situations, and no more seatbelt dinging when im cruising around the rocks at 5mph.

i personally think the seatbelt warning should disable in 4L, but im sure some Chrysler lawyer said no to that.

Good stuff! Didn't see this first time around. I'll be attempting the seatbelt chime delete.

However, I found a typo in Turn ESP OFF COMPLETELY...

6. Turn wheel back to center then left 180 degrees, JEEP logo should be upside down at this point - hold ESP off button for 7 seconds, again, hold for 7 seconds!!!
7. Turn back to center, and hold ESP for 7 seconds.

Erm...what's #7 supposed to be....right or left?

Don't know what I'm doing wrong but tried the seat belt chime 4 times, it still chimes when I start the Jeep with out seat belt hooked up. Guess I have to be smarter than a seat belt to get it to work!

Is there a way to turn off the chime when the airbag light comes on? The light came on yesterday and chimes every few minutes. Until I can get to the garage, that chime is going to drive me nuts.

Does the ESP off work on 2012s, or has anyone done this successfully on a 12? I've heard conflicting accounts on this.

The article is from 2009. I've seen posts (here and elsewhere) stating that the complete ESP disable will NOT work on 2012+. I've also seen posts (here and elsewhere) from people that say it WILL work on 2012+.

I tried this on my 2011 and it took me 6 tries to get it right -- apparently I'm not that dextrous with the steering wheel dance. This is why, before I waste another Sunday afternoon trying it on my 12, I would prefer to hear from someone with a 12+ that has actually successfully done it.

I found a post telling how to do that if you wanted to keep the radio on while outside with the door open. You still need to live through a few chimes though.
