Bill- your solder job looks a lot more pro than my set up, nice job.
Roger on not trusting the wire color, other than the basic back, white, white.

Most of us old timers are pretty practiced at soldering. Didn't used to be any other way to make a good electrical connection. I still don't trust crimp-on connectors.

It's not crazy that it works as it should, if you think about. All you are doing is choosing your ground and completing a simple circuit.

My only question is why if Jeep can clearly do this straight from the factory for their European vehicles, can't they simply do it for us fine Americans? It aint rocket science!

I think it's funny that after doing this mod, when your headlights are OFF, the marker and turn signal blink together. When your headlights are ON, they alternate. I'm sure there's a reason, but it's beyond me!

If Jeep made everything perfect, we couldn't have any fun tearing into them and messing with stuff!

What I want to figure out next is an override of sorts that will allow the fog lights to stay on with the high beams activated...

Not legal on-road in most(?) states. Good idea for off-road.

Bill,
I know it's a bad idea to run hi-beams when it's so soupy out that you need your fog lights. I've never heard that this might be a legality issue. Why would big brother not want us to be able to run fogs and hi-beams at the same time?

Regulators just gotta regulate. If the federal government can tell you how much water you can flush down your toilet and what kind of light bulbs you can buy, then tell me how we are still the land of the free? Personally, I have withdrawn my consent to be governed by these morons and just ignore thier rules. But, then I live in the middle of nowhere.

I believe the laws against having high beams and fogs on at the same time are what led to the fogs being disabled automatically with high beams on.

In CA, we're required to have headlights on if our windshield wipers are on......

Thank you!

Just did this modification to the turn signal lights yesterday and it was quite easy. I did not remove the grill and it still was a piece of cake, although I was nervous snipping that black wire!

This is my first Jeep, a 2011 Black JKU Sport, Manual Transmission. I changed the oil yesterday, as well, at 600 miles.

All is well, but I am a little concerned with the engine idle. I regapped the sparkplugs and they were all below the .050 inch spec. That seemed to help. I added STP gas treatment, figured it couldn't hurt. My guess is the Jeep engine is just a little rough at idle.

Again, thanks for the tips on the turn signal modification!

Not to get off topic, but I see the problem here. You live in California and you don't want to be over-regulated? That is exactly why I live in the absolute middle of nowhere, in Texas, and have a 12 ga with alternating 00 buck and slugs as my "9-1-1".
On topic: I do like this mod and will do this today when I get home from work. I went to Austin this weekend and ACL fest (a huge all weekend out door concert series) was going on and I went to go scalp some tickets I won and while driving around with a bunch of (high) hippies and young hippies I almost hit a few cyclists and people who clearly failed to maintain their right of way and when I had to turn, almost hit a few people because they couldn't see my turn signal.

Did this mod Sunday, took about 1/2 hour, soldered and heat shrank connections so it should be weather proof! Really easy! While I had the grill off I put a piece of black sqare wire mesh screen behind the plastic grill. looks pretty sharp and wil help protect the rad.

My family has been in CA for 7 generations. The Johnny-come-lately liberals had better move on, 'cause my family ain't budgin', and we aren't going to consent to being governed by these usurpers! I IGNORE their stupid regulations in every way possible, as do all my neighbors. And we are ready and able to hold off the lib-ninnies if needs be! Old Californians are allot like Texans. I know 'cause I have a lot of Texas kin.

And, on topic, they can see my turn signal from the side now. Not that that was my main aim, I just liked taking dikes and a soldering iron to a brand new vehicle....

Edit: And, oh yeah, I lost all my firearms in a tragic boating accident....

I'm a little lost on where the new black wire is coming from to splice in. Is it just being dead ended at one end?

The new wire connects the white/stripe wire farthest from the black wire on the turn signal light connector, to the black wire coming off the side marker. The wire is spliced into the intact wire at the turn signal, and connected to the cut black lead from the side marker.

Recheck the photos in posts 24 & 25 along with glue's description in his first post:

There is TOO MUCH REGULATION going on here.... Even in Texas...

Texas fog light laws:

§ 547.328. FOG LAMPS PERMITTED.
(a) A motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two fog lamps.
(b) A fog lamp shall be:
(1) mounted on the front of the vehicle at a height
from 12 to 30 inches; and
(2) aimed so that no part of the high-intensity portion of the beam from a lamp mounted to the left of center on a vehicle projects a beam of light at a distance of 25 feet that is higher than four inches below the level of the center of the lamp.
(c) Lighted fog lamps may be used with lower headlamp beams as specified by Section 547.333.

Yep, sounds like a fog light? What's the point? If there wasn't a clear set guideline people would be driving around with 130w hella 700s aimed at your face as a "fog light". What are you trying to get at here?

Did this today, did not have to remove the grill, wires are accessable from the bottom of the grill and fender flair. Took about 30 mins and works as explained in the posts above....another FREE MOD.
Thanks guys/gals.

I was toying with the idea of adding something to the mirror to solve this problem. I spend a lot of time in traffic and side signals are very helpful around here.

This worked great! I don't think I'll need to mess with the mirrors now.
