So I was looking to purchase a 2015 Rubicon Hard Rock today.. I thought these Rubicons were all HD... I thought they came with a tranny cooler for cooling when idling under long periods of times while rock crawling..... Make sense right?? Well, to my surprise, when I looked through the front grille of the RHR I was planning on purchasing I immediately noticed the front of the radiator was empty... Just all radiator showing, no cooler.. Then I came these photos on the Internet of 2015 wranglers and I immediately noticed that they have what appears to me to be a transmission cooler. This could possibly be part of the costly max tow package and perhaps its not just 3.73 gears, harnesss, and hitch... I did check the window sticker on the RHR I was going to purchase and Max tow is not an option.. I am puzzled by the fact that all $40,000+ Rubicon, and RHR wranglers do not come with this HD transmission front cooler as standard equipment (see attached photos)?? I guess my point is what option do I need to check off to get this cooler.... Am I correct that it is max tow??
The 2015 Rubicon Hard Rock I looked at today absolutely does not have it... Believe me I am puzzled as well.... Here is the actual RHR I looked at today, sorry for the poor quality but it's best photo of the front I that had taken.
I just searched out another RHR and the window sticker listed tow package, not max and the front photo shows the cooler through the grill.
I searched the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Accessories catalog and found that the oem transmission oil cooler kit with lines can be added. Here's is the link so it can be added. Part # 68143895AA ($142.00 + labor).
Correct, it's for automatic transmission only.. Manuals don't have a fluid pump.. It's only on 2015 wranglers with automatic transmission and any tow package listed in the window sticker.. I just finished searching through new 2015 rubicon and rubicon hr wranglers, looking at each window sticker and comparing front end photos.. Every automatic wrangler I looked at that had no tow tow package listed in window the sticker had NO cooler. Every wrangler I looked at with a tow package listed had it. Case closed. Good news is that can be added as a mopar oem accessory (see Link below).
WoW... This is a tough crowd.... If you have been reading my post, the 2015 rubicon that I looked at yesterday clearly did not have one, and the only thing in common with others not having one is that there is no mention of tow package in the window sticker.
Again, this is the exact photo of the 2015 Rubicon HR that I test drove yesterday. You can see for yourself there is no transmission cooler.. There's not much else I can say.. The photo says it all.
My 2015 rubicon auto was purchased with no tow package and does indeed have, to my relief, a trans fluid cooler mounted in front of the actual radiator. I did install a tow hitch and wiring for $80.
As I posted above, I have the trans fluid cooler and did not have to pay $300-$400 for a $80 tow hitch and wiring.
The OP is trying to determine if he needs to spend the money for the factory hitch in order to get the trans cooler.
We have told him that at least in the auto transmissions, the answer is no.
6 spd manual, no cooler. Manual trans JK's aren't designed that way. All 3.6 JK's have an auxillary trans. cooler, 2012 and up, tow package or not. 2011 and below, the trans. cooler in an auto JK only if A/C equipped has the trans. cooler running through the lower part of the A/C condensor. Non A/C, through the bottom portion of the radiator. This is all US and Canadian spec. Europe, etc. I have no idea.
All 2012 to 2015 JK's have an auxillary (separate) trans. cooler, towing package or not, with an auto trans. That was one of the upgrade/additions that Chrysler did when they went to a 3.6. The 3.8 autos don't have an "auxillary" trans. cooler unless someone has installed one aftermarket. This info. is 100% accurate for all US/Canada spec'd JK's.
Good on the OP to come back and admit his mistake.

As for the pricing, the "Max" Tow package (which is all that is available on the 4 door Rubicon) is one of the biggest scams Jeep has been running since the 3.6 came out.
Being that every +2012 Rubicon comes with at least 3.73's (so if a 4 door, you already have the 3500 pound capacity), and every manual Rubicon comes with 4.10's standard, the idea of Jeep charging all that cash for nothing more than a hitch and wire harness is a slap in the face to common sense.
On the 4 door Rubi manual, if you order Max Tow you are (or at least were back when I was buying) getting charged the full Max Tow price (which included the cost of the axle ratio upgrade) even though you already had 4.10's. Total and complete rip-off.
Go to Amazon or Q-tec and buy a hitch and harness kit for a lot less money.

I have a 2015 JKU 6 Speed MANUAL with 3.21 ratio ... I want to increase to 3.73+ so I can tow a 3,000# travel trailer. Dealer said they could swap out the axle to increase the gear ration, however I would need a cooler, which can't be installed after-market. Called Quadratec and they said I only need to swap out axles and I should be fine towing up to 3,500...
Ask the dealer to put your Jeep up on a hoist and show you where the cooler attaches. That should put them in their place...
They're trying to pull a fast one on you. There's no cooler for manual transmissions.
Edit: Oops, they aren't trying to sell you one... Anyway, you need new gears, not whole new axles. Call around to a couple of 4x4 shops, if there are any local ones, and get quotes to regear your existing axles. Also, now might be a good time to install a locker if you're considering one.
