Maximus-3 X-Style Hoop Installation

Quick post on the Maximus-3 X-Style Hoop installation on a 2016 JKUR Hard Rock. The instructions that came with it seemed to either omit steps or be for an older model so I thought I'd clear it up if anyone was having problems.

Once you receive your Maximus-3 X-Style Hoop, it should come in a cardboard box with hoop, brackets and various hardware bits for installation. You'll need a metric hex set, torx set with a T-30 and an adjustable spanning wrench -- a few links included if you want to know what these are.

Before I start -- note, you do NOT need to remove the entire bumper to install this hoop.

1. Remove the winch delete plate by taking out the 8 bolts around the perimeter

2. Remove the Bumper Cover. There's two plastic push screws which are impossible to unscrew so just drill/pry them out.

See how the "screw" strips.

Note: This piece is called 10 different things online. This handy parts PDF I found calls it a "COVER, Bumper". Part No. 1BE94RXFAC. More on this later.

3. Install the reinforcement brackets to the frame on the OUTSIDE edge. Make sure you keep all the bolts loose as it makes it easier to ensure everything lines up.

4. Optional: Reinstall the "COVER, Bumper" listed above. You can buy these push screws on amazon. There's a fair amount of discussion as to whether this piece is needed at all. Up to you. I'm going to put a winch in eventually but for now, I figured I'd put it back in as the push screws are cheap.

5. Line up the holes on the top and utilize the winch delete plate bolts and 1 new bolt to attach the hoop (while putting the winch delete plate back in) to the bumper.

6. Tighten everything up. Voila -- you're done! It can be a challenge to get some of the bolts tight due to angles and tight clearance (particularly under the tow hooks) but you can do it. Also, a tow strap will still (potentially more securely) fit on the took hooks -- there's space.

Overall shouldn't take too long. 30 minutes if you take your time and are careful with things -- recommended. Happy to answer any questions.

Cheers!

I had this exact same issue last weekend! The instructions I got were for installing a winch not the grill guard! I called Maximus and they emailed me the correct installation instructions. I did have to go buy a set of Torx L shaped wrenches...they look like allen wrenches. This was the only way I could tighten 2 of the bolts right next to the grill guard mount. There are also clips you have to removed from the winch delete plate or you will not be able to line up the holes for two of the bolts. They provide just the nuts for them so you can tighten it down. I will attach a copy of the correct installation instructions for anyone who needs them. I too will be happy to answer any questions.
It took me a few hours to install but now if I had to do it again I could get it done in about 20 min.

If the instruction link doesn't work, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

I had to purchase LOW PROFILE torx L and hex to do it. Tiny clearance for the low-profile version of the hoop. Also it was about a micron off enough where the hoop has a 1/16 inch gap on one side where the hoop doesn't rest on the bumper. I also noticed the other day some rust from one of the Maximus 3 screws/bolts I need to look at what's causing it after the snow clears.

I like their hoop. Considering their tire-carrier at the moment in fact.

Thanks all for the pics! I saw some of the Mopar one and it looks to have a lean forward to it. I don't mind either, itll probably come down to what I can get the best price on at the time.

I have, and love, the Mopar one. It is a quick and easy install, but has no brackets. Probably not as sturdy as the Maximus 3 bar, but I'm not putting any stress on it.

I almost bought a Maximus 3, but in the end I liked the easy install and look of the Mopar one better.

Question for you guys who have installed the M-3 LP hoop....

I installed this hoop yesterday... no light brackets. The install was easy except for one issue.

The threaded studs at the point of attachment that stick through the bumper... did you install the included nuts on them? My kit came with two nuts which I assume are to be installed on those studs creating a 3 point fastening on each side. I say assume because either I missed it or it's not in the instructions. Why else would the studs be threaded?. I could not get those nuts to thread onto the studs. It may be the paint, but I don't think so. I could chase the threads with a die nut, but again, I don't think they'll go on. The instructions say they are M6 nuts... maybe they sent the wrong ones? They're not expensive so I'm going to go to the hardware store and pick up some of different sizes and try them all till I find one that fits.

By the way.. Thanks to Outlaw_923 for the color install instructions. They helped big time! I love the way it looks on the front of the Jeep!

ETA: Oh yea... meant to tell you that the basic Torx bit and ratchet set that came with the Jeep works well for tightening down the bolts. No need to buy any "L" shaped Torx wrenches.

How was install?

It's not bad as long as you have the right tools. I only took off the winch delete plate. You can take the plastic trim off as well but isn't necessary.

Make sure you have on hand:
10mm swivel head box ratchet. There is a bolt welded to the hoop that needs to be tightened with included M6 nut AFTER you reinstall the winch delete plate. PITA without it.
Swivel head box ratchet/open end in whatever size fits your torx/hex bits. Low profile L keys will work as well.

Instructions suck but as long as you have those tools on hand it's pretty straight forward.
