I've got an LoD Signature Shorty with winch guard and skid plate on order. They look good, I read good things, and they offer a zinc treatment that I hope will spare me the horrors that my TJ's Jeeperman bumpers suffered through.

These guys are also in Indiana, so as a Hoosier I had to give them first pick.

I'll post pictures once it's installed. This is not their Armorlite bumper, this thing is going to be heavy metal, with a Warn 9000i winch and new synthetic rope on it, and on a 2012 JK that already has the horrible factory rake. A leveling kit will be discussed as well...

Has anyone put a mid length bumper on a JK with stock wheels? I really like the look of the JCR mid length Dagger Prerunner, but I'm sticking with the stock 18" Sahara wheels and 255 tires until they're worn out. Should I wait until I change them before I do the bumper? If anyone has a picture of a mid length bumper with stock wheels I'd be appreciative.

What does the new bumper have to do with the wheels? The bumper is for when you hit a deer or bang in to stuff while you're wheeling or for added protection while driving.....

What am I missing on this? I'm putting steel bumpers on my jeep with the stock wheels/tires this month and I never even thought there would be an issue....

I'm thinking in terms of looks - if you put a stubby or mid length bumper on then it shows off far more of the wheel, and I'm still running skinny stock tires.

It was purely a question about aesthetics, no concern over the way the vehicle operates. What can I say? I'm a shallow man.

Just make sure you build it how you want it the first time!

If you're eventually going to put 35's+ on it, get the stubby bumper NOW. Don't get a full bumper because it will look better now and then have wheel clearance problems later.

Build how you're going to want it! If it doesn't look right for a while, that's fine. You'll get it there when you can.

Fab Fours W/Engo 9k Winch -- Im still in the market for a rear bumper, but I had to slow down on the spending for a few .. I did the bumper install after watching a couple you tube videos, took my time, and it was quite easy. This bumper retails for over 1k, I got this new on craigslist for $500

I love the Expedition One front bumper I installed on our 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Very well made, looks good, holds just about any winch and keeps the cable windings visible. I installed it myself and it was a piece of cake. Again, I'm impressed by the fit and construction.

I got one without a hoop, but they sell it either way.

One gripe: no extension wire harness for the factory fog lights, which move farther out from their original location. I had to splice in some extra wire.

I want full sized. Changing mainly for design, rather then necessity. So focus on good looking and quality.

Is that the High access bumper? I've been eyeying this one for a while now. How do you like it? I saw it mentions the bumper is not to be used to tow vehicle...??

Looks nice, man.

Thanks, yeah its the high access. I've been running it for a year and a half..banged into a few things ..no paint peeling just some small rust spots from rock chips and at d-ring mounts where paint was rubbed off from shipping and I haven't touched up yet. Not sure about the no towing part you mention, I would guess that's in reference in towing for long distance like behind n RV or something?

One of the primary reasons for me to want to change the bumper is for the tow bar. I have a fancy one on the wife's CRV, but I just had a generic one on the TJ. Now with the new JK, I need to sort this issue out. Looking at the stock bumper, there's just no meat to mount to.

It seems to me that virtually all of these aftermarket bumpers have plenty of meat for a tow bar, especially since they include recovery loops which are going to see much higher stresses!

I like the idea that at least one of the manufacturers is willing to supply brackets welded on. I was actually considering modifying the tow bar to attach to the recovery loops in place of the D rings. That seemed like a better idea than having to grind and re paint the new bumper.

Now for the decision. I like the way some of the mid or full bumpers make an attempt to come up and sort of close the big gap to the front of the fender. I just think that with a big gap there, it looks unfinished and you might as well use a shorty (except for the protection).

I am also looking for a bumper as well. My concerns are these:

1) I will be running 37's.
2) The bumper must fit the Warn Powerplant in a low sunk fashion.
3) I must like both front and rear bumpers as I don't want to mix and match.
4) Tire carrier is not an issue as I'll be doing the Teraflex Hinged setup.
5) I will be running Poison Spyder Crusher fender flares.
6) The bumper must have cutouts for factory fogs as I have JW Speaker 6045 fogs to install.

The RSE stubby comes very close to being my pick except that it doesn't have cutouts for the factory fogs. Also Poison Spyder's Brawler light comes very close as well but the winch would sit on top of it as opposed to "in" it. I will have to do the lift/wheels/tires and put the fenders on first and then hopefully the right bumper will find me.

I'm envious. Nothing meets all the criteria I laid out. Unless I get some custom one off bumper. I do like PS and RSE rear bumper but the front bumper has some issues for me.

Looks great. Just wondering if your jeep is lifted? Looks more level than stock even with weight of bumper and winch.

I think I have decided on an AEV tubeless bumper but also want flat fenders. Does anybody have a pic of an AEV bumper with ACE wide fenders? I have seen an AEV bumper with Bushwacker flat fenders and it looks okay. I would think that the ACE wide fenders would look better with the AEV bumper. Thoughts?

It may not appear this way in this pic, but yes... I have ready lift 4" suspension kit. I was surprised at the final ride after my updates. I think it has a better ride than it did before.. smoother flow and tires are more quiet than the stock..trust me, its lifted. I'm reminded of that every time I struggle to jump in, and always forget and "fall" out.

Love the way this looks. Can I ask what size wheels and tires you have? Would love to get this setup on mine.

Thanks,

New Aluminum Bumper

Hey y'all. Thought someone might be interested: Pronghorn Overland Gear is launching a modular, all-aluminum front bumper for the JK's. Still waiting to hear more about it but here's the URL:

Great Resource, My list is echoes some other peoples thought. My biggest concern when reading these is the relocation and bracket cutting. I would also make sure any one I choose has the protection for the disconnect. Great write up.

Full Width - Expedition One
Mid Width - Metal Cloak w/ 60" Light caps or Hanson with fender tubes
Stubby - Metal Cloak or Hanson again.

I am going to try and design my own bumper this time, both Front and Rear.
