MEGA Front Bumper thread

I have been looking at bumpers for my Rubicon. I made myself a master list and figured that the info I collected could help others. I know that I don't have every single front bumper offered for the JK (2012 in my case), so if you guys want to contribute to this thread I think it could be a really useful research tool. The parameters I entered for each one were important points for me, but feel free to add additional info, especially in the areas that I could not get, like the weight or modification needs in some cases. Also, the pricing are rough numbers. I'm sure in some cases that a lower price can be had, I was just doing general searches and the majority of the time was using the prices from a handful of companies. Enjoy.

Who has the best price on the LoD lite bumpers?

JCRoffroad JK Wrangler Front Midwidth Dagger Winch Bumper.
I went with this one to avoid relocating the vacuum pump, weight (57lbs), and they offered a skid plate.
I am very happy with my purchase.

Now that you have had the bumper for awhile, how is your paint holding up? You did a nice job with the texture - how exactly did you finish it? This is the only concern that keeps me from pulling the trigger on one of the JCR's.

Thanks.

I have the RR with storage ends

So I'm not liking the full length it's to big so I removed the ends I'd like to get the end caps but still debating

Cosmo Blue.

I have lined up the Rugged Ridge to with end caps and thinking too doing the stinger look. Also have the rear bumper with tire swing bar and carrier linkage; all found at Extreme Terrain for a lot less than any other web-site I have found to enclude Q-Tech.. Yours look great by the way.. But can pulll the switch until uncle Sam gets me back on U.S. soil. a little over 2 months months left in the A-stan..

Yeah the bumpers great I PMed you back but it wouldn't give me access to do so but those D rings are standard rugged ridge I just painted them blue to spread the color out. I also have some ridgid dually amber fog lights installed in the bumper. I think with the end caps it will look more finished . Be safe hope you get back soon .

I like the looks also. Clean, slightly aggressive - not to obnoxious. Wish I knew how to read Japanese to see if it's plastic, or stamped metal.

Jao's quality is exceptional - they have a bigger footprint in the Japanese off-road market. But with the exceptional quality comes that ridiculous price. I wish there were more distributors here in the U.S. (I got much of this Jaos information from a fellow forum member here - I believe he has contacts)

That Japanese bumper states it is made of steel and cost a little over $300 and the skid plate is about $150 and comes in black. Reads as follow: I translated most of it as you see below.

税込価格= tax included price
型番:1357= model number
JAOSスキッドプレートSC(ステンレス製) ¥16.800-=JAOS skid plate SC ¥ 16.800-(stainless steel)
つや消しブラック塗装 ¥30.450 = 30.450-matte black paint
SCアッパーバー(スチール/ブラック塗装) ¥14.700 = Upper SC Bar ¥ 14.700-(painted steel / Black)

FRP(RTM)製 未塗装白ゲルコート仕上げボルトオン取り付け純正フォグランプ取り付け可能 =
Unpainted FRP-made (RTM)
White gel coat finish
Bolt-on mounting
Fog lamp can be mounted genuine

Does anyone know ...

Does anyone know ...

If it's really ok to use the attach points on any of these bumpers for flat towing a JK Jeep.

The Warn bumper manual says not to, but the others seem silent on the point. The currie tow bar suggests towing at 40 mph or less, and that's not happening behind a 500 HP Wander Lodge.

The base plate approach seems to require modifying the frame which I'm not on for on a brand new vehicle. Also not sure if many of the baseplates are going to interfere with a new bumper. And then there is the cost of a new bumper AND base plates.

I really like some of these bumpers and would rather weld up some adapters for our demco hitch, but am wondering about bumpers re airbag sensors, etc. I'm not really sure where the air bag sensors even are.. I always thought they were a part of the bumper, but based on the install documents I see no mention of sensor wires, so wondering if they are somewhere else unrelated.

Check out post 168.

Chris (owner) at LoD Fabrication is very popular with RV folks that flat tow Jeeps. My mid width with Blue Ox tow brackets will be here next week. Chris in one great guy to work with and their products are top shelf. Call them, you will be impressed.
