Messed up stubby bumper mod

OMG, this was supposed to be easy.....borrowed a reciprocating saw, bought the metal sawzall blade, started cutting. Got through the top and started down the front and got going at a bad angle. Now it's cut almost all the way down the front, but I can't go any further cause I ended up cutting toward a bolt on the backside. Can't get the right leverage to cut the underside....now what do I do??? Not comfortable holding the saw upside down and can't get to the underneath part. This is messed up!!

Can you post a photo?

A.) a photo can assist in us helping you if the angles can be seen and give suggestions to help you

B.) a photo provides fuel for some to flame you, but let's be honest, somebody will anyway so might as well add a photo for the ones that can help.

1. LOTS of room for error with stubbies! Just re-cut from the top.

2. No matter how badly you mess up, new, take-off OEM front bumpers are easy to come by... try Craig's list.

Relax. Take a break for a minute because operating a saw when worried/angry/upset is bad news. Worst case scenario is you cut off the ends fully and have a true stubby. If you can post pics we can help more.

I almost hit that bolt too. Let's see a pic. Good news is the cap will cover up mistakes.

Why not just REMOVE the Bumper, make your cuts, then reinstall it ?
Kind of like one would remove their Clothes to take a Shower. lol

Just saying sometimes "SHORTCUTS" end up being the long way around.

Here it is from the back side....you can see the horrible angle going right to the bolt....

Tried to start at the bottom and go up but hard to get the leverage....

Don't worry about that just cut around the bolt and tear off the end pieces. Put on the caps and call it a day.

If you can get the blade back to where it starts angling you can drop it straight down and out. Won't hurt anything once the caps are on

Sometimes it's better to step back and relax. You can finish it anytime you want. Sometimes it's better to start again tomorrow.

I have officially earned the ice cold beverage I am enjoying now! Note to self....make straight cuts! The second half was a breeze once I paid attention to what direction I was going....so here is the before and after....

It looks great!

Now that it's done, nobody needs to know you had a bit of trouble... except you posted it on the internet...

My cuts aren't that pretty either, but the ragged metal is protected with Rustoleum, and the finished product looks professional, just like yours does.

Yep, thought about editing my original post and just showing before and after....but what fun would that be?? Besides, if this is the worst of my problems, life is good. Just trying to remind my kids not to repeat the things they heard coming out of my mouth in those moments of complete frustration. Surenity now, Surenity now!!

Hey wait a minute, your stubby is short than mine

I started this project and had a huge mental hang up taking a sawzall to a vehicle with 400 miles on it. I paid a guy $60.00 and he cut the bumper. Someday I'll remove the caps and probably see a cut just like yours.

I was just a little freaked out! My neighbors were looking at me like "what is that crazy woman doing now....cutting up her vehicle?? Someone take that power tool away from her!"

I'm a little anal and would have been very unhappy driving around with it not being finished. But very happy with the result. Put on some Mother's Back to Black and it looks much better....should post a warning to make sure those who are going to do this mod pay attention and make sure to cut straight !
