Minor damage on Carfax report

I've found a 2012 2DR JK Sport that is literally spotless inside and out. It looks like brand new and appears as well cared for as they come with low miles (under 18,000) and I'm head over heels for it with only one issue. It has "minor damage" on the Carfax from an accident with another vehicle. The original owner wanted a 4DR for more room and traded it.

The dealership that has it had a "TrueFrame" report done on the vehicle which states that the rear bumper cover was replaced and all of the measurements are exact and all other parts are original. From my inspection, the tailgate is original, spotless and nothing in the rear of the vehicle shows anything was damaged including the tire carrier which is also original.

I'm assuming the Jeep got hit in a parking lot or something like that when it was parked and being as spotless as it is, the owner was neurotic about it being damaged no matter how small it was and turned it into the insurance company to have it fixed.

My question is, what do you guys think that on the Carfax is going to do to the value and how much I should be trying to get off the price for that?

Thanks in advance for your input!

What makes you think the vehicle has not been already priced based on the fact that it was already in an accident.

Good point. In todays world and with the internet, You can search all over the nation for a vehicle and let's face it, you are not going to go see the highest priced one out there with more miles. You are going to call the one with the lowest miles, cleanest history with the lowest price. I am betting this is what you have done and found the Wrangler you want. Go buy it and start having fun!!!!

They're asking near book price which I'm not going to offer regardless of the Carfax. I'm just wondering how much hesitation you guys would have buying a vehicle with that on the Carfax or what kind of damage to the value you think it would do.

I had a collector car with prior accident on the record. I sold it for market value without an issue. Got my full asking price. I don't think small accidents really depreciate the wrangler that much as long as the title is still clear. I mean everyone knows the bumpers ding by touching them LOL

For the most part, in my mind, the people on this forum have always been great for their first hand knowledge of Wranglers. I don't see a major issue with the Carfax but want to make sure I'm looking at it in the right perspective and not just jumping on it and making a mistake I regret later. Just figured I'd bounce it off you guys and see if you had the same thoughts as I do, or would be running from it.

There is no doubt that 2 Wranglers exactly alike, same miles and condition, sitting side by side, one has a clean carfax and the other has you carfax. I would buy the clean carfax one if they were the same price. So of course dealers have to take this in account when pricing their vehicles. Check autotrader and other search's for similar Wranglers. See if you can find a like Wrangler with a clean carfax for the same price, and take this to the dealer with you.

With what you describe, if it is all true, I would not have a problem buying this Wrangler as far as confidence in the vehicle.

I had a 2011 that was hit in driver's front fender, didn't even go through the paint. It showed up somehow on Carfax. The damage was so minimal that a buffer and a new marker light took care of it. So to me Carfax can be a little over bearing, what difference does it really make if the bumber cover was replaced if done properly?

You might ask for a bit off the price but don't pass on a great Wrangler just because it got the bumper bumped. What did the Carfax say about the service record? If the prior owner used places like Jiffy Lube the service history will show and that is more important than a ding in the bumper.
