Moab virgin

Hey guys & gals,

I've been looking at all of these awesome pictures from MOAB and have now added it to my bucketlist.

What I'm wondering is do you have to be fully locked to even attempt most of the trails? I'm waffling on lockers now primarily due to rhe cash outlay (I've got a regear and bumpers plus winch to add. . )

Can one still have fun and complete an average trail with open diffs and some driver finesse?

Just got back from Moab a couple weeks ago. Awsome. There are tons of trails but I assume your talking about hells revenge. You could do the regular area without lockers but you may have to get up alittle speed in a couple areas (just lower your airpressure first). Without lowering my AP I had to use the lockers twice. Avoid the V's on devil's playground, you won't make it without lockers and at least 2 in lift. enjoy

Yes, there are lots and lots of places you can have fun without lockers.

Here's some pictures from Moab, taken this morning:

This is our company TJ, with lockers, big tires, blah blah.

In the background is our company president, with his daily driver JK. No lockers, mild AT tires (he likes to be able to talk on the phone while he drives).

And here he is getting stuck on Fins 'N Things. He needed to get winched. So a little too much for his rig, but no damage done, and a bit of fun. Could he have made it? Eventually, probably. Definitely if he had good tires.

Very cool. Thanks guys. I think for now I will pass on the lockers and just get this regear done. I've been humming and hawing about the lockers for a good 4-6 weeks now... lol

But you realize what will happen right? You'll go to Moab, have a great time, but you'll go home saying "I am so buying lockers now!" and maybe saying "I need bigger axles and really big tires, and one of those tents for the top, and ...."

It's a vicious circle, designed to take all our money.

But you will have fun, even without lockers.

IMO, if you're planning on getting lockers at any point, I'd just get them installed when you do the regear. Assuming you're not doing the locker install, you won;t be paying for them to pop open the diffs twice. Your decision by all means, just trying to make you a little more indecisive.

^ That what I am doing. They are only charging me an hour labor for the lockers since they are doing the gears anyways. The hour is for wiring the locker.

I did Hell's Revenge yesterday and I didn't put my lockers on once. As a matter of fact my 2011 JKU Rubicon is pretty much stock except for a 2" spacer lift. I was able to do just about everything on the main trail. I only had to do a couple bypasses because I was scrapping my rear diff. You just need 4w low and 2nd gear and it will get you just about anywhere.
It was a lot of fun, but you are right. I want bigger tires and new bumpers and possibly a larger lift so I can get over those steps. The only thing is once you start one thing it always leads to another.

There are tons of trails you can run without upgrades, stock Jeeps come out here all the time. Lift, big tires & lockers are nice but not a necessity. I would put some skid plates & rock sliders on first, let me know when you are coming out & I can show you some easy trails

Well I have, She says she's just a bludja from down unda, truth is, She is the most unselfish, giving Jeep enthusiast you'ld ever hope to meet. She has taken countless newbees out on the trail. (me included) She sizes up their driving abilities, factors in their jeeps capabilities, & selects a wonderful trail that will challenge them a bit & guarantee to be a fun yet safe & exciting trip to remember.
She has been know to rescue lost & broken down Jeepers, driving many miles in the backcountry, in the middle of the night, with provisions, a replacement part or fresh battery.
I hate to ask much of her cause she always delivers. Certainly would not want to take advantage of her unselfish, good nature.

Her name is Julie, her Hubby is Jeff, & they my friend, are the BOMB!!!

We should prolly start a fuel fund in her name!!! I'd be the first to donate.
