Modifications/preventive measures for 12+ day desert expedition...?

I have planned to go on a 12+ day desert expedition in a very remote area of the Sahara desert. This would be 6+ months for now so I have time to prepare and import anything I may need.

Here is a map to give a general idea of how remote this area is.

This is on a 2011 Wrangler Unlimited Egyptian edition.

I am looking for info regarding what spare parts I should take with me. Parts to change, modifications to make, general watch outs... Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

I know we have to carry one way or another about 25 20liter/5gal jerrry cans. Are there any 2nd gas tank options available?
2 spare wheels.
3 liters of water per day per person.

Thank you!

What type of roads/trails will you be on? Sat phone might be a good investment. Have you been to this area before? Are you going alone or with a group?

heres a fuel tank,,,GenRight's Jeep JK Gas Tank

i would upgrade my drive shafts to tom woods or coast.
i would look into bead lock rims, because your will be aired down all the time. this will prevent the bead of the tire from breaking off the rim.
i would have on board air.
salt pills
britter water filter bottle
a really good hand held compass
white clothing or tan
stop leak for the radiator
extra hoses.
maybe a fuel pump or mount and external one and fuel filter, for easy change out.

A 2nd vehicle would also be a good idea.

Need a bigger tank. That would only save me 4 cans. I am thinking a tank inside the jeep.

Drive shaft for a bran new jeep? Is it a weak point?

Won't be below 20psi unless need to climb out of a depression or over a really large dune. Most of the time around 25psi

Have a compressor.

We take all the water with us. There are some oasis with good water, but they don't need filtering.

Radiator/cooling hoses? Even for a new jeep?

From the electrical side where do I draw the line? Fuel pump, ignition system, sensors...?

If you have an automatic, install an auxillary transmission cooler before you go. I would also consider a cold air intake in the form of a snorkel, since water crossings are likely. I would add a Gobi rack for your gear. Also a 3.5" suspension lift with a 35" tires. and a tire carrier that also can carry spare fuel and water tanks. Include spare filters (air, fuel, and oil) and few extra plstic transfer case clips) Lots of other items..(e.g. 1st aid, etc..) These would be the bare minimums. Go to Expeditionportal.com for more help.
Side note: I would have some sort of protection and a wad of cash with me if I were wheeling near Libya.

The Wrangler here brings an tranns cooler from the factory. Um... you are kidding right. There is no water in the desert...

Will be taking the rear seats out so I hope to have enough space with out the need for a roof rack... Roof rack will cost me around $4,000 to get it to Egypt.

Clearance is not an issue, if i lift it will be just due to the extra weight.

Got plans to modify the transfer case shift cable...

No, the main reason for the snorkel is to provide colder air intake and, more importantly for where you are going, less dusty intake. I'm not sure if you are going with a group, but dust is a major problem when following. Having the intake high helps a little...it also provides another filter location. I don't have one on my JK, but had one on my previous vehicle and it really helped in this regard. Good luck, sounds like an exciting trip!

This may seem like a silly question, but do you speak egyptian, are you egyptian? If you are not egyptian i would carry some euro's, deusch marks, and dollars. About 500 US each. If you dont speak egyptian then i would carry an egyptian to English dictionary.
