mods to a sahara = Rubi or betta

I have a stock 10 sahara - everything w/me is planned in advance b/c I need to save for long periods to attain what I want - so this would most likely not happen til next July - anways... What mods would you do and keep it under 5k?
Use would be mud terrain and backroad woods - mild rock interaction - maybe small boulder size 24 inches height at most

tWas thinkin - Rubi xpress 2.5 / 33" shoes / 17 rims / regear from 3.73 to 4.88? / d44 front???

thoughts? or just go with a Rubi in 2012 LOL

You are going to spend a heck of a lot more than the difference between the Sahara and Rubi to make your Sahara into one. There are a lot of extras on a Rubi that most people don't really seem to account for. When you add in your time, it would have been better just having one right out of the box. That is unless you are going to make a monster crawler out of it then it might be better starting with a clean slate and building it yourself. Not a lot of us have that type of talent....including me. Eventually I will make mods to mine but I've been having a lot of fun with it stock and leaving the warranty in place.

Yeah, it's going to set you back more than 5K to get all the stuff the Rubi comes with. Shoot you'd probably drop that just getting a D44 up front and a 4:1 transfer case. Add lockers, gearing, etc . . . shoulda bought a Rubi!!! That being said, for the wheeling you've described, you probably don't need this stuff . . . throw a small lift on there and some bigger tires and maybe a winch and you'll be more than ready for the type of terrain you described.

yeah - I was thinking keepin this only a few years then upgrading to a Rubi - maybe a lift and some bigger tires is the better way to go for now.

Seems there is some tremendous cost savings when it comes from the factory versus aftermarket. Granted - my original fear was to overpay for stuff underneath that i was not gonna need. oh well - not like this is gonna be the last jeep i ever own

Hm, under 5,000 to build a jeep better than a Rubicon...

4 35" MT's $900

15" steelies $200

Teraflex springs for 2.5" shocks rear TB bracket new rear sway links $500

quick disconnecting front swaybar $100

rear ARB locker $800

Rubicon take off Front D44 $1500

5.13 gears 1500 including labor.

I'm a little over budget, but this setup will kick the living sh*t out of a stock Rubicon. Instead of a front D44, you could install some chromo shafts and gusset the C's on the 30. It'll hold. Now you're at 5,000 budget AND better than a Rubicon.

Oh...almost forgot....

2 Rubicon decal stickers $30.

Now it's built

Oh yeah...with the exception of gears and the locker, everything else is do it yourself.

That labor will kill you

it's all easy though.
