Momentary Power Loss in Instrument Cluster

Jeepers,
So starting about two weeks ago I began noticing some weird behavior in my Jeep (2012 JKUR).

Started with my driving on the interstate and I heard the beep/chime and when I looked at the instrument cluster the SWAY BAR light blinked a couple of times. Weird I thought, but kept driving.

Now, the last time I did some wheeling and used the Sway Bar Disconnect was maybe a 6-8 weeks ago.

I happened to be doing some additional driving this weekend, and this kept happening more & more frequently. I also noticed that when this happens a bunch of other lights also come up on the cluster (although not all lights), and the speedometer also just drops like it lost power. There was no power loss to the engine as far as I could say, but the whole thing lasts less than a second.

Happens at different speeds and on straight road as well as bends, in normal (2H) driving. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce on demand, which worries me about having to take the Jeep to a dealership.

Hopefully the computer logs this and we can narrow it down. Has anyone else had this happen? What was it, and what did you do?

Thanks much!!

-Lokka

Try disconnecting your battery for about 10 minutes, then hooking it back up.

Also, check to make sure your ECU (thin silver unit in front of wiper refill) ground wire is attached properly. It should be attached to the inside bolt/nut that holds the ECU on.

Chances are it's something different causing your problem (sounds more like a short somewhere), but the battery thing, especially, seems to fix a lot of electrical gremlins.

Any mods to your vehicle? Tires, etc?

Front bumper & winch (WARN VR12000). Winch has been on 5-6 months and I've used it without any issues.

Thanks! I'll try it out before going to the dealership.

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the exact same problem.

I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms. Was there ever a resolution?

Thanks,

Ash

I had similar issues when my ground terminal connector was loose. The Jeep went into emergency power mode and shut off all instruments and radio. Once I tightened it no more issues. Maybe check that before anything else

I tried what kbwwolf suggested, and it resolved the issue. Didn't have to take it anywhere.

I remember something about the rubi's sway bar disconnect box letting water in and causing electrical issues.

I posted a separate thread a month ago on my new 2013 JKU Sahara. My stereo system and A/C shut off and came back on after a second while driving once and a separate time the Alpine 7 series radio while driving completely shut down and hard rebooted to factory settings on its own. Another time my right front leather seat which has a heater, you would turn on the heat and after 5 seconds it would cycle off by itself. Took to dealer. Could not be reproduced and system registered none of those problems or codes. I have unlimited lifetime warranty so I'm not stressing it but there's definitely a problem.
