Mopar Bra

Taking a road trip this weekend and bought a Mopar bra for my 2011 Wrangler Unlimited. $123 from the dealer. Could've bought it cheaper online, but needed it today.

I like the look of those things, does the buckle at the center of the hood rub/flutter at all? I was worried about it scratching the paint after extended use.

Looks COOL!!!!

Oh, I just noticed, is there a screen over the grill?

Yes, there is a screen over the grill. Also, the center strap has a large white, soft cotton back that faces the hood, so it doesn't scratch the paint. The strap is adjustable to tighten it down. It doesn't move at all. It took about 15 minutes to install the bra for the first time. It comes with two supplied screws with snaps that get installed on the body under the hood. Very well fitted and easy to install.

Just make sure you don't leave it on for extended periods of time, grit will get trapped under it and sand away at your paint.....

And here it is after driving 90 minutes on the turnpike. Dreaded Florida love bugs!

I don't really care for the Bra myself, but I can attest to the cleaning of lovebug guts after a drive down the turnpike. If you wait too long (like a day) it feels like an impossible task.

It's a good thing you didn't fold down the windshield before your trip!

After seven hours of washing, bug and tar remover, scratch remover and wax, my Jeep is as good as new.

That's what I was thinking . . . as soon as any dirt gets under that thing, it's like sandpaper rubbing on your paint. What a god awful mess from all those bugs . . . is the bra easier to wash the bug guts off of or can you take it off and throw it in the washing machine? I don't get the point of the bra, you still have a mess to clean up, but now you have another, potentially much worse and more costly mess underneath to deal with and the hassle of removing and installing the bra. What's the point of it, other than a different look?

The one I got suggested a coat or two of wax prior to installing, to help minimize dirt issues like that. Plus, I'll keep mine on for a few days (whenever the love bugs pop up again) and take it off the rest of the time unless I'm taking a long trip. I have not had a single scratch in the bra-covered areas due to dirt getting trapped, and that includes my last car, which would have the bra on for months at a time. I think as long as you keep that area waxed, you'll never see an issue.

To answer your last question, first and foremost the point is to stop anything from getting into the grille openings and splattering onto the radiator. Secondly, love bug juice is extremely acidic and is notorious for ruining paint VERY quickly if not removed, especially if it has any time to bake in the sun.

I purchased a product called Bugslide at the local Harley dealer. I use it on my fairing and Jeep. It removes the lovebugs pretty fast and if they a dried up you just spray them and let it sit on there a few minutes and wipe them away. Then I cover the whole front area and when ever I drive any distance and it is the lovebug season, I get out a soft cloth and the Bugslide leaves it like a waxed surface but a simple wiping with a clean rag they wipe right off with no fighting to scrub them off. Great product.

^^ that's pretty good to know.

Although my Jeep is a girl - it's more like a hippy girl - she only goes bra-less

I have the half one for just the hood on my JK, I put it on before taking it to the shop. The buckle is and fit of the thing is like a glove. I actually had to put a good bit of effort into initially tightening it down to the where the velcro starts. Once I got it there I could undo the velcro and pull it down more. It is tight and not going anywhere.
