mopar direct injection kit?

Pure speculation but since the pentastar engine is supposedly designed to allow direct injection in the future, could you upgrade at some point? Compared to a blower or turbo it seems like it would be a much bigger deal. It would be a cool way to keep a 2012 wrangler fresh in in 2015.

No.

Really, no...

Changing from multi-point injection to direct injection would not be a plug-and-play deal. Direct injection requires DI-specific cylinder heads, so unless you wanted to grab a $3K+ bill, for a MINOR upgrade (a few HP, SLIGHTLY increased fuel economy, SLIGHTLY lower emissions). It's minor because your bottom end (not your butt- of the engine) isn't set up for DI. The main reason DI is so wonderful is because it atomizes fuel much better, which is due to higher pressure and fuel being sprayed directly into the cylinder. This allows you to run higher compression ratios than multi-point, thus the power gain and fuel economy drop. Without swapping pistons to bump your compression ratio AFTER you swap cylinder heads, you'd have pretty much wasted your money.

Next up, you'd have to wait for Chrysler to even MAKE a DI system. That's a year or 3 down the pipe, sadly, since they dropped the ball on the 3.6 so far. After that, you'd be blindly hoping that they would, for no discernable reason, offer a conversion kit, which is about as likely as me winning the NY Marathon... in flip flops... running backwards. Yeah...

So, again, no.

What do you think they mean by "ready for direct injection"?

What is "ready for direct injection?" The Pentastar? Yes, it was designed for direct injection. But I HIGHLY doubt they'd ship it as multi-point, and tap the heads and run the wires for you to later add direct injection. Also, again, your compression ratios would be different, so it still wouldn't work! Mark W.
