Mopar Fuel Door or RR One? 100% Price Difference?

I did search around on here before posting this, couldn't find a "comparison", so posting the question.

I want to get a fuel cover and I'm fairly certain if I get the Mopar one it will be the best fit/quality etc but it's just about exactly twice the price of the rugged ridge one and the rugged ridge one "looks" fine to me, but wanted to see if anyone has seen / had experience with both?

Some reviewers of the RR said it doesn't sit flush, has a gap between the ring and body of the vehicle (if that's the case, I will go mopar).

Is the RR one just as good as the mopar one? Differences?

Thanks!

I have the Mopar and have recently noticed that it no longer stays flush to the body at the top. The clips inside it appear to have stopped clipping.

Check EBAY. I just bought my MOPAR one off there for $78.00 delivered.

That's the same price I paid. If it's the same seller he also has the door sills for $17 IIRC. I got something else from him as well, but don't remember what it was.

I have the Moper (coz it says Jeep on it). Fit is fine, no issues with gaps at all and it's been on 2 years now. Not so easy to see but this is the closest pic I have.

Looks like the place I got mine isn't selling on ebay any more. It was Wyatt Arp Dodge and their username was mopardeals.

As someone mentioned, if i do get the mopar one i will likely paint the screws...my jeep is black and though my new wheels have some brushed steel/aluminum accents (though i may change that later too), i'm otherwise going for the blackout look on it (nite shades in route now, as well as black matte rubicon sticker replacement, then truck lites later - not sure how / what to do with fogs and license plate yet though).

All because of the fuel door?

I am going Mopar for sure then.

I bought a used one where the clips wouldn't hold the fuel door without it spinning. I used mounting tape along the inside and it's held fine since.

I was planning to do the same. Just found the problem last weekend and haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Ours doesn't spin, just doesn't hold itself flush to the body any more.

I would go Mopar... I have one and was very pleased with the fit and finish! If your looking for a rock bottom price on mopar parts and accessories try Steve White Motors. Look them up on the web! They have a super easy to navigate genuine Mopar Parts and Accessoeies page.. Super fast shipping too!

If you want it to be tight against the body and more permanent, you can always bolt it to the panel.Take the "fake" socket head cap screws out of the gas door, mark and drill the rear panel and replace them with longer ones.Putting nuts on the inside of the panel.

I initially purchased the Rugged Ridge locking fuel door - but within 2 weeks - the lock on the fuel door started malfunctioning and wouldn't unlock. I finally had to let the gas station attendant pry it open with a screw driver after he and I both spent over an hour trying to get it unlocked with the key.
So.......I now have the Mopar fuel door with the "Jeep" logo on it - and it looks great ! I also have the Mopar locking fuel cap with a lock that is keyed to my factory ignition key.

a lot of the RR stuff is made in China...in my experience, they focus on cost over quality.

Wow, Rugged Ridge really took a beating here. I don't think I have ever seen as conclusive of a thread! I guess I still can't believe how much the mopar fuel door costs and that no one is making a decent alternative...

But Mopar it will be for me I guess...

I have a few RR items and am happy with all...except the fuel door, I chose to not even put it on because it looks and feels so cheap.

Won't work on a black Jeep, but for everyone else, here's a thought:

I was planning to paint those silver screws on my fuel door black......but I think you just gave me a better idea ! I really like the contrast of the yellow paint on the black fuel door.
That looks awesome ! What type of paint is that?
