Mopar Hood Lock on 2014 JKU Auto

Hello, Has anyone installed the Mopar Hood Lock on their 2014 JKU automatic? My JKUR X got delivered today and my dealer attempted to install the hood lock. However, they said the bracket on the lock does not fit on the 2014 because there was a change with the intercooler in auto transmissions. I don't recall reading anything about such a change in 2014. I thought this would be an easy "mod". I'd appreciate any feedback. Many thanks!

I installed the Tuffy hood lock with no issues. Mine is a 2012 Auto with the cooler.

Your dealer is full of it.

I have a 2014 auto and I ordered the mopar hood lock from the dealer. It was the same part # as the one my buddy has for his 2012 manual and I had on my 2013 auto.

I installed all three myself and there was no install issue if you took your time to move a couple of things like the outside temperature wiring harness out of the way before install. The hardest thing is riveting it on because the rivets are so large.

They need to try harder.

If they are so incompetent that they can't figure it out on the first go-round, I think I'd be afraid to let them try any harder!

Update: It turned out the hood lock the dealer had in stock had a defective bracket. They contacted Mopar and were told that there have been some issues with the bracket. Dealer got a new one successfully installed in time for me to take ownership of my new Jeep yesterday. Relief! Thanks for the responses.

Awesome Mopar lock. Riveted. Keyed to ignition key. Holds hood tight even when both sides undone. All installed and keyed for under $200. I'd do it again.

Hood lock

I just got my Rubicon x from Jeep Manhattan and wanted the hood lock pin, I thought maybe it would cost 300.00 the most!!! They charged me 584.00!!!!!! Then when I found out the cost they had the nerve to tell me that they usually charge 695.00ˇ!!!!!

Very expensive. Go to Mopar and get price of lock. Then ask how much to install. No more than $300.

Buy it online. $120 off ebay. Harbor freight heavy-duty rivet gun that can handle 1/4 rivets 19.99, cheaper with 20% off coupon. Follow instructions that come with the lock and your all good. YouTube if the instructions are not good enough for you. All in under $150. You could throw the rivet gun away at that point and still come out on top, or get creative and find other random crap to rivet.

695???? 584???? I got my mopar hood lock for $125 plus $20 for the extra large rivet gun from harbor freight needed to install it. Took me about 20 minutes tops in the driveway. And that included programming the lock to fit my ignition key.

I did the exact same. I can't imagine paying the dealer a few hundred labor for an easy job that can be done quickly at home.

Holy crap!! It's literally a 20 minute install, and I had never used a rivet gun before.

What was the parts/labor breakdown on that $584? The dealer price should have been like $189, and if they wanted to bend you over, an hour of labor. (Less than $100)

I would go back and complain.

That's more then tax, that's theft.

I will be tackling this on my own and as others say $128 online for lock and $20 for rivet gun.

Just to be fair, is the typical dealer labor rate in Manhattan really just $100/hr ????

Most stealerships are, its hard to find a good one that doesnt want to nickle and dime you for everything youve got. They hate people that do research and know how much things actually cost. My stealership wanted to charge me $500 for the tailor hitch.....I said nice try, ill buy it from ebay and install it myself for under 100 lol

This is exactly what I did. I'm no mechanic and it was a piece of cake.

I have the lock too and think it is great. I was lucky enough to know i wanted it when i ordered my X so i had the dealer throw it in but I still would've had no problem paying for it unless I bought it from Manahattan Jeep like RockandRoll58!

I bought mine from the dealer for $148 including tax. $20 rivet gun and 20 minutes later it was on. Easiest install ever. Works flawlessly. One key for everything. Looks factory. Protective rubber cover. What more can you say?

Anyone that spent over $200 for this thing to be installed got robbed. Sorry.

Turned out I called and cancelled hood latch, they were very courteous and cancelled the appointment to install the latch. I have yet to get my lock but am planning on it this week, although I've heard that almost half the people who install it themselves have issues pairing the lock to the ignition key? Some people said they turn the key the 180 degree turn then turn back and pull out the key and the trunk locks but the key doesn't open the lock? Is this true?

I had one defective one that (even though I followed the instructions perfectly) didn't code correctly. After I spoke to the seller (it was a dealer in who posts parts on eBay), he said that they had a batch of defective ones and were getting a lot of them with issues. I exchanged it under MOPAR's warranty at my local dealer without any hassle and re-coded it while I was there. I installed it myself with a Harbor Freight rivet tool.

DO NOT RIVET IT IN UNTIL YOU CODE IT AND CONFIRM IT WORKS.
