Mopar LIFETIME Extended warranty

Hello All!

I have a pretty important question regarding my 2015 Wrangler 2 door manual. I am currently 16 years old. My dad bought me the jeep bone stock and I have worked at a Jeep dealership ever since. My jeep has steel bumpers, fenders, winch, endless lights front and rear, head unit, speakers, subs, wheels, tires, MetalCloak lift etc. It's a built Jeep.

Now my main question is weather any of you guys think the Chrysler/Mopar extended warranty is worth it? I was looking at the LIFETIME extended warranty and it costs about $2600 with a $100 deductible. Now, I am planing on going to college and dental school I have 10 years of school ahead of me including high school. I am making lots of money now, mainly because I have no expenses and work a ton when I'm not in school, do you think buying a warranty like this is a good idea? I am going to be in massive debt when I go to college and grad school and I know I am not going to want to be paying to fix my car. It currently has 20k miles on it. With everything I have installed, there isn't many things on my car that would be covered in the warranty besides the engine and tranny really. I have replaced countless items with aftermarket.

Also, knowing that I am 16 ( a kid) I can honestly say I drive this thing pretty hard. Not all the time, I like to get as good of gas milage I can get... But especially with friends, I am frequently flying through 1st and 2nd gear lots of high rpm and 0-60 runs and red light racing. I don't really know how reliable the 3.6's are but I don't want to have problems down the road. I also don't know much about my powertrain warranty. I have the 3/36 but don't the 2015's come with a 10/100 power terrain warranty? Wouldn't my engine be covered in that. Other than my clutch constantly making a clicking noise even when its not even depressed or in gear, my jeep has had no problems. I got the whole clutch replaced and it still started to make the noise again!

Thanks in advance for all your answers!
Nick

There is a dealer in Michigan that sells them cheap.
xxx Dodge. Website is xxx
That's where I got mine from for half price of my local dealer.
They also are NOT a site supporting vendor. The dealer I listed below is one. Support the forum sponsors. You will not find a lower price for a Mopar extended warranty than what Tom sells it for. Oops...did I just end a sentence with a preposition?

It's a Jeep. Not a race car. Personally, I don't think it's worth it. But I had to buy my Jeep and I treat it well and don't tear it up by accelerating it as hard as I can go to show off for my friends. You have a REAL long ways to go to get out of any kind of school. Especially dental school. If I were you, I wouldn't pay $2,600 for some warranty. Instead, I'd take care of what I have, not tear it up for no good reason, and invest that $2,600 in myself and MY future. Not my Jeep's future.

I think differently. If you have all this other stuff you are taking on in life you don't need to worry about the Jeep breaking down and having to shell out more money then. I'd consider the warranty if you plan to keep the Jeep a long time and I'd hedge that on the fact you would need the Jeep for a daily driver for school or work. We bought the lifetime warranty, I expect, at some point, it will get used. We take care of our stuff, but things happen.

If everyone who bought the lifetime warranty actually kept it for a lifetime, they would've had to stop offering the plans. It's worth the money if you keep the jeep for 10+ years, or maybe even 5+ years. The real question is how long you will ACTUALLY keep the jeep, not whether the lifetime warranty is worth the money.

This is the correct answer! Chrysler is betting you'll not keep the vehicle long term. So many people will trade, total, or have their car stolen, that they can offer this decent deal and still make out well overall.

Wranglers hold value so well that it'll take a very old and very high mileage vehicle to have any chance of them invoking the "cash out" clause to terminate the warranty.

I have no doubts that I'll drive mine as long as possible, so I jumped at the warranty. As long as some fool doesn't do it in some day! ;-)

Just went through this process with Tom Winkels, info posted above. He was a pleasure to deal with, replied to all my emails very quickly and sat on the phone through all my questions without rushing me.

To me it's just peace of mind, I drive a lot and plan on keeping the Jeep for a very long time. Already have a few road trips scheduled, it's nice to not have to worry about racking up miles on it.

Hey man just thought I'd try to chime in here. 19 now (got my Jeep at 17). I'm in my second year of college and will enter grad school next year (Business major though). My parents got me the lifetime warranty about a week after I got the Jeep. We thought I was going to drive this Jeep into the ground. THEN I started to off-road. Some of my thoughts:

-Do you off-road?

I do. Whenever I take the Jeep into the dealership I seem to get a lot of "fight" from techs/service writers. I haven't needed anything replaced under warranty yet but I do get accusations about modifications and off-road. I am currently thinking about selling the warranty back since I'm losing faith that I'll actually be able to get work done under warranty because of dirt...It's a Jeep

-Are you really going to keep your Jeep for long?

As others have already brought up. Many don't keep their vehicles for as long as you might originally think. I thought I would have my Jeep for at least 12 years. I now think about trading in for a Rubicon (T-Case and buttons - techs have tried to fight me since my sway bars have been disconnected). You've also got a 2 door. If your high school friends have enough restraint to not beg for rides all the time you'll soon learn college kids don't mind asking for a ride. I imagine filling the backseat with people and moving seats every time to let them in and out can get annoying. I obviously can't guarantee that people will ask for rides or anything but I know I use my extra space A LOT. Besides people you also have to move in and out of your dorm/apartment, take kids and their luggage back home for breaks (gas money) etc.

Just some food for thought. I forgot if I had any other points lol. If you have any other questions about this or anything college feel free to ask.

Thanks for the input man. Yes, I am constantly giving rides to friends, moving seats back and forth every weekend and it does get annoying. Even though a 4 door might be more practical, until I am in college the Jeep is technically my Dad's and I cannot sell it or trade for a rubicon etc until I am at least in college.

About the warranty... I do off-road a good bit. I don't rock crawl or anything really like that. Mainly trail riding with my buddies through mud and water and hills. My dealership though, is very nice about off-roading. They told me that they know people off-road. It's a jeep... They know. I have had my jeep worked on caked with mud multiple times. They just told me, and everyone else, the warranty for the specific part will be voided (obviously). So if I snap my MC track bar or ding my bumper etc etc I will have to contact whoever I bought the product from about the warranty for that. Therefore, the product warranty would be used. I just do not really know if things would break that are still stock or not and I also do not know if I would ever end up selling the car.

I am currently about to regear to 4.56's and I am really thinking about weather or not I should wait until I have enough $ to fork out an extra $1800 to install front and rear ARB lockers. Weather or not I do, the Jeep has probably gained a lot of value and I am guessing I might even make money on it if I sold it right now. Fully built, MC lift and I have installed every single part so far myself so I have payed nothing in labor except a few hundred to a friend from work to install the lift with me at his house because he has a car lift. I would obviously end up paying someone to re-gear. I also work in the parts department at my Jeep dealership, so I've payed dead cost for 80% of my parts which does add up over time. I bet I've saved hundreds if not almost a grand in parts. Who knows about the future.

Thanks for the input. If I do end up getting the lifetime warranty, I would end up buying it after I regear sometime this year. I am currently a Junior in HS so I have a year and a half left at home with it. For now, I am just saving as much money as possible for my next purchase.
