MOPAR Soft Top vs. Bestop Soft Top

Differences? Anyone with experience with either or both? Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks!

One says Mopar on it and the other Bestop. Both are made by Bestop.

When I bought the Besttop, which was a good top, I wasn't able to roll up the rear window like on the factory one that I have now on my '12 and on my earlier TJ's. The zippers only went one way as opposed to having 2 on each side that I could zip up to the top and then roll the rear window up and snap to the top. The Besttop didn't have the 2 straps to hold up the rear window up either. Little things, but I really liked to be able to roll my rear window up......

I just bought the TrekTop NX by Bestop. It's sitting on a table in my basement as it is too cold to install here in Ohio right now. I can't wait for spring to get here. Have you looked into that model? It is surprisingly inexpensive; however, I still have a hard top I can put on in the winter so I don't need to rely on a soft top for year-round protection.

I've got a trek top. The amazing thing is that it doesn't leak like the mopar hard and soft tops. So blame it on the doors, I disagree. Best top makes an exceptional product, and it gives the unlimited a distinct and great appearance. There are a.few conveniences that you lose, like roll up Windows, but ill manage. Jeeps are great because you can customize and make em look your way. Buy what you want, but only a besttop on my jeep. Just saying.

Keep in mind that there are various types of soft tops that Bestop makes.

Daggo, how is the factory soft top compared to the Supertop NX? Are they the same one as you said in your first post, or is the Supertop a grade above? Here's my specific situation: I have an opportunity to buy an unopened factory soft top for $750, but as you probably know - the Supertop NX's go for about $1000. Is it worth the $250 savings?

Thanks for the insight guys!!!

This is my first OEM top. Had plenty of Bestop's including the new NX.
OEM is superior. Both made by Bestop but IMO the factory top is better made.

Great thread! I just got a my first Wrangler, so I don't know much about tops yet.

Anyone have info on how long they last, especially before windows cloud over? I considered a hard top too, but I don't have room for a roof lift and it's gonna be a pain to remove and replace a lot in summer, I'm sure, and I don't want to spring for both right now.

As I stated, there are many tops made by Bestop. The factory top and the Supertop are the same.

The Bestop Super Top I bought had had bubbles in the dark tinted back windows, and over a period of a few months the canvas seemed to grow, it became much looser and the flapping was deafening. Granted I may have got a defective top, but I'll never buy another Bestop product. I've had 3 Wranglers with factory tops and 1 that I bought aftermarket for and there is a big difference in quality. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. The only good thing I can say about it was it didn't leak, but then none of my Wranglers leaked.

I just ordered one of these for my Wrangler today.....

MOPAR 82211678 - MOPAR® Sunrider® with Tinted Windows for 07-09 Jeep® Wrangler JK 2 Door - Quadratec

Im tired of fighting for storage of my freedom tops....now I will be able to flip two latches and let the sun shine in...my Wrangler is just used for recreation so the added noise won't be an issue for me...

The prices have finally come down to a more reasonable level.

Bumping this thread.

A few said the OEM top is better, but not why.

I have both right now and wondering which one to keep. I have an OEM '12 top and just bought a 2 year old Supertop (got a great deal). The reason I did this is I have clear windows. So already put the tinted windows from the supertop on. The windows do appear to be identical.

The Supertop does look exactly the same. I noticed the supertop has some quick release buttons for the rear part. However, I'm never going to take it off so don't care about that.

Any other differences? If not, I'll just keep my OEM top with the Super top windows and sell the Supertop with OEM clear windows.
