Mopar tow hooks.

I bought the Mopar stock tow hooks and added them to my X this week. What a pain.. lots of plastic to cut out inside the bumper cover that the instructions don't show. The pop in plastic screws, that hold the air dam underneath and the plastic piece between the bumper and grill, would not unscrew. I had to just pull them out.

And the instructions say you need a 15mm and 18mm sockets.. They don't mention that the 18mm needs to be a deepwell socket. I had to drive to the hardware without a bumper to buy one.

I have not put the air dam back on. I'm going to leave it off for a tank or 2 of gas to see if it really makes any difference.

you get slightly better MPG with the sucky plastic thing there. for future reference, start unscrewing those and use something to pry them up as you are unscrewing them. I used a knife to keep tension on the screw while unscrewing them.. with a little practice you'll get it. The first time I took that piece off, I yanked it off because of the screws. I've learned better now

I've dealt with the plastic press in screws before, but these seem even cheaper and less useable than previous incarnations.. Several wouldn't even turn whether they were being pried up or not and the heads just stripped out.

I guess I shouldn't say less useable, just less remove friendly. They went right back in afterwards just fine.

i just left my airdam off... there's quite a bit more hood bouncing, but nothing bad. what did you use to cut the plastic? I used a utility knife, which didn't work really well, but got the job done.

I drilled four medium sized holes in the corners for each cutout on the top side and used a sharp electricians knife between the holes. I used a drill with a small router bit on the bottom side. it looks crappy, but it is on the bottom.

No pics, It got too dark before I finished Tuesday and has been raining ever since. Actually stopped this evening and is suppose to be dry tomorrow.

Those plastic screws are pain in the butt. When i got stock in mud and ripped off the plastic skid plate under the bumper, i could not unsrew them, so i just yanked that plate off. lol
