More horsepower

Is there a way to improve horsepower on my 11 JKU without doing any major maintenance or costing me over $500?

If not, what are the other options?

No
A sprint booster might make it feel a bit faster...but that is about it.

Supercharger
Hemi swap
Trade it in on a 2013/13

You could try a re-gear. It won't "give" you more horsepower, but it might put you in range where your engine produces greater horsepower.

All are more than $500

A free lunch? No, not so much...when it comes to performance parts for Jeeps/cars, 500 bucks is basically free and your ROI will reflect that =).

If you don't mind putting some cash into it you can certainly do an engine swap...one of the more popular mods for the truly performance minded. Alternatively, you can Super/Turbocharge it - Superchargers being the more common and popular forced induction for Jeeps.

You can read the great many debates on 'cold air intakes' (CAI) and their merits (or lack of). In that budget range... maybe a nice set of headers?

The 3.8 is in pretty good tune for what it is... which is a rather dull mill without a lot of doodads. More power in any appreciable amount requires doodads.
