More power???

Hey y'all. I have the 3.8L and am in need of some more power. I am going to 35's and a 6 inch suspension lift. That 3.8 is having trouble with my 33's as is. What are all my options? I have a crate 302 BOSS at home and am seriously contemplating doing a power train swap.

6 inches?

Your options:

1. Buy a tuner, if they make one for your YM.

2. Regear. You'll see the most benefit from this, IMO. The 3.8L Jeeps are undergeared right from the factory.

3. Supercharger, hemi, etc.

Gears are your friend. My 3.8 halls my heavy JKU on 37's around better then it did when it was stock.

Yeah I have stock gears 3.73's. I want to go 6 just for the flex as I am wanting to do more Rick crawling and such. And for it to be way up there, also I got just over three off my rock krawler lift and have room to put 35's on but don't think I would have much room to flex. Also if I don't like 35's I would go to 37's.

5.5 RockKrawler with 37's

It would look down right silly with 35's IMO

if your rock crawling low center of gravity is your friend.
flat fenders or no fenders. im running 3in of lift and have plenty of room for 37s. just need to wear these out first.

Lift as got little up do with flex. You want down travel. This can be done with 2.5" coils and long travel shocks. No need for 6"

So I am currently running 33 duratracs with a 2.5" rock krawler lift that came out to just over three inches of lift now couple that with fox 2.0 shocks. What is something I can do to make her a better rock rig?

Thats a sweet looking Jeep, and well thought out build.
6'' is a bit much. keep it practical.

Mount up the 35's, swap or cut the fenders, disconnect the sway bar and go wheelin. If its not a Rubicon add a set of lockers, but be prepared to start breaking stuff. Rock crawling and mud bogging are hard on drive trains. If money is burning a hole in your pocket I'd suggest regearing an bullet proofing the drivetrain first.

There are many tuners on the market. Some are:
  • Hypertech Max Energy Ecom Programmer
  • Hypertech Interceptor Power Tuning
  • DiabloSport InTune
  • Jet Performance V-Force Plus
  • Bully Dog Triple Dog GT Tuner
You can find them by Googling the above or go to:

Jeep Parts, Jeep Accessories, & Jeep Tops and look up performance tuners

If you are in an 07-10 the Superchips Flashpaq or Traildash are about the best tuners you can get. 2011 is limited due to the new Jeep programming.

@JEEPDON- I have that same lift on 33's and don't think I could stuff 37's under her! And re-gearing is on my mind but don't want to be running at higher RPM's at highway speeds. I like to keep the 2K - 2.5K rpm range going 65-70

I don't know why you didn't get more lift out of the RK than you did??
Here is another shot of mine setting on the 37's. And this is with a heavy home fabbed bumper and front skid plate; along with a 12K winch.

And yes, I wheel the hell out of mine--- that is what I bought it for.

Mebee ya need to get the sawzall out!!!!
More power without re-gearing---- supercharger!!!!

I got just over three inches out of my RK lift and I want to cut my fenders. Might do that this weekend, still would only go to 35's though.
