People complain because they didn't due their own research. Car salespeople (mostly men) tell lies to potential customers daily. If you drive a vehicle 3 miles and pull the trigger on spending $30000-$40000 and then complain when it doesn't do exactly what the guy who makes commission on every unit and $1000 bonuses for selling his (her) quota, then you really shouldn't complain about the vehicle but should complain about the process. This is why so many people hate buying cars.
I'm assuming every time a person takes their jeep in for death wobble that's a safety complaint. Then they throw a new steering stabilizer on it, masking the problem for a few weeks, then they come back in again. 2 safety complaints right there
I like the feeling of weighing over 4000# cruising down the highway. That feels safe. Not to mention I've been more than safe in my 2 jeep accidents
--Complaints per 100k sold: 69.48
--Total 2012 complaints: 2,036
--Model with most complaints: Wrangler
--2012 sales: 474,131
Last year, there were more than 2,000 complaints lodged against Jeep cars. But unlike other makes, Jeep complaints were not largely limited to one component of the cars. Jeep powertrains, interior electronics and hardware, chassis suspensions and axles, fuel/emission/exhaust systems and steering components each accounted for more than 10% of the complaints customers reported last year. Jeep owners are also among the least loyal. Just 27.5% of drivers turning in their car intended to purchase a second car from the make, worse than all brands except Kia and Scion.
Huh! I guess I must be suicidal. I just keep buying Jeeps.....
Notice this rating is based on less that seventy (70) complaints per one hundred thousand sold (70/100,000.) Jeez, it's an outright stampede of panicking Jeepers.
Trust me, the number of complaints cited are just to low to be significant. This is just junk journalism.
2012 JKU Rubicon
I bought my 08 JKU almost 2 yrs ago. Yes I've got a family of 2 kids and a pug. IDC that it isn't luxury or rides smooth. I bought it bcuz I like the look. Its a beast that gets me anywhere i need to go no matter what the weather is. I love my top off. And my kids love the top off too. We also have a 91 Cherokee that is the TOY vehicle. So I own 2 jeep in a matter of 2 yrs. like em both. My hard top leaks sometimes but have come to terms it's a jeep thing. I just put a camper dehumidifyer/heater thing in it took the plugs outv the back. It works. I've put a new bumper a winch on it. Now just gotta put new rims/tires on it. Every car make has issues and complaints. It is what it is!!!
Hard to comment since I think they are talking the whole Jeep division in parts of the story and then about the Wrangler. The Wrangler has one of the better resale values (see Forbes and others) yet the story says "Jeep owners are also among the least loyal. Just 27.5% of drivers turning in their car intended to purchase a second car from the make..." Sounds like a huge disconnect between the Wrangler division and the rest of the Jeep line up.
Deny it all you want but Chrysler has had numerous quality issues over the years.
Mine has been fine, no problems but that doesn't negate the fact other owners are having legitimate problems. Read these forums. Then again we do have a faction here that thinks if you are a "real jeeper", you should just suck it up and ignore quality issues.
Does this mean all Fiat Chryslers suck? No but your chances of getting one with real issues is higher than other vehicle brands.
Fortunately for Fiat Chrysler, there is no competition for the Wrangler.
