Mounting 33" spare...

Guys what do I need to mount my 285/70-17 KM2 on the stock gate? Thanks!

Heh Heh, I'll tell you what I've done and had no adverse affect on tailgate/hinges/hinge welds-

Nobody believes this system gives any support and figure I musta been drinking, so use your own judgement-

I've had many swingaway sparetire carriers, so I know their advantages, but I didn't want one for my JKU, so

I used the stock JKU spare tire carrier and with my ProComp extreme alloy wheels BS of 4.5", I installed new Daystar BUMPSTOPS and added a 5/16" SS roundhead carriage bolt, on my aftermarket bumper, to supplement the stock carrier/hinges/hingewelds and reduce momentum shock/strain, when my JKU hit bumps/ruts/branchs and came off rocks-(gravitational downforce)

Now after almost 1 year--there are no ill effects on tailgate/hinges/hingewelds

The main addition you should add to the carrier when increasing the tire size the small amount (33"), is NEW BUMPSTOPS

Some guys have even added 35" tires to the stock carrier, but I kinda draw the line on that one

If you don't add new BUMPSTOPS and/or a gate strengthen kit (quadratec), THEN YOUR new spare WILL PROBABLY DEGRADE THE GATE HINGEWELDS !!

Good luck

JIMBO

Jimbox where did you get the daystar rubber extensions? I looked all over for something like that before but had no luck.

In the interim I had some thick rubber pieces that I wedged between the tire and the factory rubber. Works well but only for the short term.

4wd.com Pt.# DAYKJ09144BK -$14.99/pr and they replace the stockers , but have to be trimmed to length (usually)

Good luck

It's an 11/16" carriage Bolt, only because it's gotta have a ROUNDED head, so the tire tread squeaks overit !!
