Moutain Sticker Removal

I recently purchased a Mountain edition JK and am debating removing the mountain stickers.

I would like to know if they will leave a mark? What's the best way to remove them?

And should I decide to keep them for now and remove them a year or two down the road if I will have a mark on the paint?

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance,

Craig

You shouldn't have any marks from removal. Park in the sun, let em warm up, take some dental floss or a credit card, or plastic scraper and lift an edge, peel, goo gone for residue, clay bar after to get rid of the crud, wash, wax, done!

there is a thread that is currently litterly 3 threads down that is talking about decal removal. Please look around before posting. The mountain logo on the hood is a decal which is basically a fancy sticker. The longer you wait the harder its going to be to get off but that dosint mean you cant get it off months or years down the line. If you want to take it off I suggest taking a heat gun or blow dryer and heating it up so it will come off easier. Then very SLOWLY peal with your nail or a putty knife or what ever you want that wont hurt the paint and just start at a corner and peal it off. There will probably be some sticky stuff underneath so use something like Goo Gone or just rubbing alcohol. If you do wait a while say 2 years and take it off there could be a noticeable change in the shade of the paint where the sticker was. Shouldnt be to horrible though.

that sticker looks so gay. please take it off. The first time I saw one I was like WTF and the guy driving looked at my Jeep and then looked down at his steering wheel in shame. He was leaving a golf course ice cream shop.

I've been toying with the idea of taking my sticker off too. But it's only day 2 and it has grown on me.

Just decide soon . . . if you remove it quickly, you won't notice a difference, but if you wait a year or so, the rest of your paint will fade/change a bit in the sun and you'll be able to see where the sticker was. My buddy removed his Rubicon Sticker and you can totally see where it was if you catch it at the right angle.

Tell him to take a clay bar after it..... I think you'll be surprised at the results...

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a clay bar? Like modeling clay?

Clay bar pulls all the crap outta your paint. Some of which will make it appear the paint has changed colors around the stickers. Most folks (I think) who tell you the paint faded around their stickers, are mistaking crud deposited in their paint for fading. Which if you think about it, I've never seen lighter paint surrounding dark areas where a sticker would have been. Maybe I just don't look hard enough. But that's what it would be if the paint had faded. Oxidation on the other hand will discolor the paint, but under the sticker would be lighter, not darker. You may have to clay bar more than once for optimal results, but the effort is worth it. Your paint will feel like glass... and it isn't hard to do... I should do mine today

This past spring I pulled the stickers off of my '98, (Chili Pepper Red) using a light touch with a heat gun to soften them and a fingernail for scrapping. Cleaned up any goo with lighter fluid, and you can see where they were.

You should have no problems with stickiness or paint changing color if you pull them now or wait a bit.

What does it look like where they were? Lighter or darker? Or do you just notice an outline?

Yeah, I read that, and I did search first. If it's the same thread I saw, it was about dealer stickers on windows and such. I figured this was a different subject.

I think that thread was about dealer advertisement stickers on the Jeep, not window stickers.... In any case, you have your answers, it's easy...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I know some of you frown upon the sticker, but I am torn as to if I should keep it or not, like others have said, it has grown on me a bit.

My first reaction was to pull it, but didn't want to not like it without.

I have the rescue green (you can see it in my profile), with the "reflective" hood decal as well. I DO like that, and just wanted to know if waiting would hurt and it sounds like if I follow InfernoGirl's advice, I could hold off a bit before making a decision.

Thanks,

I saw a few Mountain editions at the local dealer a couple of weeks ago and thought they would be really cool if I lived near a mountain. I live in Nebraska, you know, the state people drive through to get to the mountains...not much to see here, move along. On certain colors it looks ok, on others, not so much.

IG - Nothing, can't tell where they where. No outline or difference in the paint that was under them. I'm a little surprised, because red is a color that usually fades or oxidizes over the years. Now, no more "Wrangler 4.0L Sport", just "Jeep".

tmoca - Yours is new, take your time before deciding. I don't think your paint won't change that fast, but taking them off destroys them.
How are you with a PC. Take a picture, then photshop them away. It will give you an idea of how it will look. No cost / damage.

That black hood decal will need removal soon enough if you wheel it much.... They're a pain to maintain. Don't wax it, and don't bump up against it when you're waxing, no armor all or anything, maybe some 303 Aerospace protectant on it to help keep it from drying and cracking... Ask anybody who owns a Daytona....

Thank God they didn't put any of those ugly ass stickers on the Sahara!

Them mountain stickers with the latitude and longitude numbers plastered all over the place are GARBAGE.

The only stickers that are worse than mountain stickers are those ISLANDER stickers.

Oh God.

I use liquid ICE by turtle wax on the fenders as I may have stated earlier and it keeps the fenders black and shedding water. That black hood sticker will probably give the same results with ICE. Worth a try on avery small spot to see what it does. If it doesn't turn fenders gray, I doubt it will turn the sticker gray and it will probably keep it shedding water. ICE is not like wax more like a synthetic slippery coating. Jeep shines up pretty nice with it all over.

I took my mountain decals off within an hour of driving it home from the dealer. I couldn't wait to get them off. I didn't need a heat gun, they just peeled right off.

I've left the black hood decal on for now, but it's probably coming off also. I like the black accent on the mango tango but I can see it will be difficult to maintain.

No ugly ass stickers . . . just painted flares and wheels that scream MALL CRAWLER!!! Sorry had to bring you down a notch from your Sahara pedestal! I have to agree with you about the pooping tiki!

We all know the only sticker that deserves to remain on the hood of a Jeep . . . RUBICON!!!

Mall crawler? WAAAAAHA HA HA HAH AHA HA!!

Sorry, dude, but the raw black plastic fenders scream ASSISTED LIVING HANDICAP ACCESS TOILET LID COVERS to me.

I tried to swallow that naked plastic fenders style several times before I got my Sahara and just couldn't deal with that base model look.

That's great!

The plastic fenders painted or not on the JK bugged me from the beginning . . . throw some tube fenders on there and now you're talkin'!
