MPG - pleasently surprised

So as I stopped by the fuel station to spend some money this morning and I took a look at my MPG and low and behold... 14.6 MPG!!!! WOO HOO!!! I am running 37"s with 5.13s and as far as I am concerned anything over 12 is a BONUS.

That's terrible IMHO.

My 8.1L ext. cab, LWB, 4X4 Sierra gets 12.3 and it weighs 7000 lbs.

I was hoping a Wrangler would be closer to 17.

He is also pushing 37" tires. I'm guessing just by the size that they are mud tires which always yield lower mpg. I get 19-20 in mine but I have 32" all terrains~not nearly as fun, but probably very similar to your truck

Apples and Oranges dave... My 6.6L 4x4 Duramax gets 14 whether I am driving on the hwy, on the street or towing a 35K pound trailer. I did not buy a Jeep in hopes that Al Gore was going to give me a Go-Green medal. I bought my Jeep because there are some things in this great land of ours that are only possible in a JEEP...

Yea, I hear what you're saying.

Do you think 17mpg is reasonable for a stock Sport S w/3.73 in all around driving?

At 11-12 mpg and a 18 gallon tank you're constantly looking for gas stations due to the short range.

That motor also has at least 100hp and 200tq up on the 3.8. The 8.1 also makes that power lower in the rpm range. Also if stock you are running what 265-75-16? Significantly narrower, shorter, and less unsprung weight than the op. This isnt apples and oranges it is completely uncomparable.

BTW my completely stock jk gets 18 mostly around town with a little highway driving. Not too bad for basically a brick.

17-20 is about right depending on how one drives. I have completely changed my driving habits since picking up my JKU. I now accelerate slowly and find myself actually driving the speed limit instead of 10-15 mphs higher. I have a 07 5.3L Tahoe which gets about 18 MPG, my Duramax and my JKU and I tell you that while fuel is not cheap, it is plentiful so I might as well use my rations.
