So in my search for tires it seems that BFG is coming with the KM3, MT is coming with the MTZP3, Cooper is launching the STT pro. So now instead of buying tires it seems I am in a waiting game. I really wouldn't mind pulling the trigger on the MT MTZ in 315/70r17 but it seems to be on back order or just sold out to the release of the new models. What is a jeeper to do with a new lift and jeep ready for tires?
The few pics that I've seen of the KM3 and MTZ P3 seem to show a lower void ratio than the current generation of that tire. This is also the case with the STT Pro. It appears that the MT tires are headed towards less aggressive tread patterns while the ATs are slightly more aggressive.
This will surely not be the case with likes of Super Swamper, Interco and Maxxis which are purpose built with a higher bias for off road terrain. It's yet to be seen if they offer more traction but sales are very likely to increase with better road manners since it would appear many of them are installed for appearance and rarely leave the pavement.

I agree. But I can't complain because it serves me well. I want a tough MT tire that has descent highway manners and I think that is what they are trying to produce. We shall see. These new designs may not be ideal for a dedicated off-roader.
Well that would suck if they went in that direction, I love the KM2's for their off road capabilities and they are all ready great in my book for on road.
Besides isn't a less aggressive mud terrain just an All Terrain tire, isn't that why they make the new KO'2, now they'll be making basically two AT's.
Do you think that M/T tires will become lighter this generation? Is this something that the industry is trying to do?
It would be great for us jeepers if they can get them to be a bit lighter

Next Generation availability. If you know for sure if any of the next generation MTs are available, please report so we can keep tract. Next generation I mean released and launched within the last few years. If you know a firm date for a release also please list it.
The M/T Baja MTZp3 was expected to launch in June but when I called them they were pretty vague and said they did have the Deagen 38 out. The website does have the specs on their new calendar already. I actually prefer the specs of the current MTZ in 315/70/17 which is slightly narrower and load D compared to the next generation. They are adding a 34x12R17 of course you never know how they will actually measure and weight out.
I think the new Dick Cepek Extreme Country follows the same pattern discussed above and if you watch the video from SEMA, they even say it's built exactly for that.
Dick Cepek Extreme Country looks pretty good. Here is link to the specs page 7. They seem pretty light and have the 295/70/17 which seems interesting but it is E. https://www.dickcepek.com/downloads/Cepek_Catalog.pdf
I emailed back and forth with the Tire Product Manager at Dick Cepek and he said that the 295/70-17 Extreme Terrain is planned for a June release. They expect this to be a popular size tire for overland type builds and highly capable in all conditions. A lot of our discussion was about sizing...
I took from reading his comments that DC believes their tires run more true to size than some other mfg's. The timing is pretty good for me, I might just have to give them a go.

I could not wait. I ordered the old MT baja MTZ 315/70/17. It is a D tire and narrow for a 315 listed at less than 12 on a 9.5 tire. I like the look of a bit narrower tire so that fits me. I think it is on track for basically the new 295 which is supposed to be 34x12. Waiting for wheels for the install. This should hold me over till these next ones work out the kinks.
