It never ceases to amaze how some demand to be treated fairly by others, but think nothing about encouraging others to commit insurance fraud and related crimes.

While I agree to a certain extent, that was not my post. I just was stating that in my 10 plus years of selling Chrysler products that I have never seen Chrysler not penalize the customer for damage, mileage or in this case a full paint job or whatever it takes to remove the signatures. Chrysler takes the vehicle, makes sure it is repaired and then sells it thru auction. Right or wrong, that's pretty much how all of the lemon/buy back deals(I have seen) have gone down. I'm not saying I'm right nor am I saying anyone is wrong, I'm just speaking from my experiences.

Seriously you need to call the attorney generals office they will get on this for you. You also may want to take it to Royal Jeep in Charleston, I'm not sure where you are but they have always been very good to me.

Yep I know, I was just voicing my opinion that it's unfair to the owner if Chrysler penalizes them for doing absolutely nothing wrong. She was within her rights to paint her Jeep however she likes. If the vehicle ultimately turns out to be a lemon, that's not her fault, it's Chrysler's.

If they penalize her because of the paint, then it's a pretty obvious demonstration that they care more about being able to make some $$ back than they do about making things right with the original owner, even though they were the ones who screwed up and gave her a lemon in the first place. If it were me, I would get a lawyer and fight tooth and nail to make sure Chrysler doesn't see a dime.

Nope, we know they obviously won't. Chrysler doesn't care, it seems like. I feel sorry for the unfortunate buyer of the "repaired lemon" whose (potentially first) Jeep experience will be miserable.

Okay,

I giggled at all the comments on the signatures. I understand that most of you are men and even the men I know locally cringe at the thought of the signatures.

But it is so my baby. The jeep was the logbook for a geocaching event that made national attention. I held the "little" event in my yard and it accidentally went "MEGA" and 518 people showed up.

The event brought 605,000 to my tiny town Home Page

I love the signatures ! I had no intentions of ever ever ever selling it. People say all the time that the resale value is down because of the signatures and I always say, I had no plans of selling it...I bought it to roll down a mountain...Not resale

The only problem I have with it is that....Well, it looks way better on the highway than it looks on a rollback heading back and forth to the dealership.

I should have put the exact price instead of the exaggerated price that was rounded up. It was 38,000 ish and yes it was the loaded up version. I didn't mind paying that for it when it was running

I asked Chrysler today to let me start yet another claim but they said I can't until It is in the shop and has a diagnosis so it will be in the shop tomorrow and our paper work is in the attorneys hands now. I will ask them nicely again tomorrow to replace it or refund the cost of it. I have little faith in them at this point so I imagine they will turn me down again.

The signatures are VERY sentimental to me and it makes me happy every single time I look out and see them there. I hope to drive it to Washington State in the summer and gather even more player signatures on it.

You would think with all the attention that the jeep drew that the signatures actually made it worth more . I would take it and park it in front of the dealership with a big sign and a big lemon on it

I thought of having my next geocaching event with 518 people and 21 states show up in the parking lot of the dealership but I don't want to take the business from my town. LOL

It could be that we do an event soon and have all the cachers show up with signs that say "Replace it or lose us" Geocachers love jeeps (normally)

The vehicle has been filmed for a pilot episode for the History Channel so I would think they would care if it is left to be the constantly ridiculed yellow lemon or the awesome cool star of the show. But they don't seem to care.

Either way it will get press so I guess they have nothing to lose so they don't care.

Some people may say the same thing about tree branch scratches, cutting fenders, dents ect. But many here look at those with a certain fondness and sentimental value...like her signatures. To each their own.

If you have turned the matter over to an attorney who has knowledge of the lemon law for your state and your vehicle meets the criteria, Chrysler can't turn you down. That's why lemon laws exist.

Don't get another Jeep... the only way these people will learn is when people refuse to buy crap. The late-model Jeeps have way too many problems for being 5+ years into the cycle.

If you're lawyer it's any good, he may even be able to have your old body panels transferred to a 2012 replacement vehicle. He could argue for the added value the "fame" from those signatures might be worth -- especially since it has been featured on the cover of a magazine, on the History channel, and as the centerpiece of a major event... just a thought.

I don't understand. Jeep didn't produce a 2012 in yellow...I see the video now. It looks like dozer. Now it makes sense.

I would think that the wiring harness, ECM and steering column could easily be replaced. Problem solved. ChryslerFiat should repair it properly and sponsor her web sight. This could be a good marketing move.

If I remember correctly, Dozer Yellow is the full name of Dozer, although it looks more orange to me!

WV isn't that far from Toledo,OH. I guarantee you have one of your events across the street from the Jeep Assembly Plant you'll draw enough attention you'll get somewhere with this.

That is one awesome idea! Plead your case to all of your geocaching friends to come help you fight the "man" in Toledo. If Chrysler has to deal with this publicly it could be beneficial for them too. Send an email to Robin Mead on HLN or Anderson Cooper (or someone like that) and see if they are willing to help.

Is this "geocaching" what the hippies are doing now? didn't they all get the memo some states are legalizing weed? Why waste there time anywhere else?

Listen, there was a guy in the 60s/70s by the name of Eddie Campos. He bought a new Lincoln and it turned out to be a lemon. He made national news when he torched his new car at the Ford Motor Corporation in Pico Rivera. Eddie subsequently cut a hole in the top of that Lincoln and planted a lemon tree inside the car and towed it around on a trailer and would park it in front of the dealers.

This went on for years, actually I think Eddie was instrumental in passing the lemon laws. I would see his Lincoln parked in his front yard. He lived a few miles down the road.

I'm not suggesting you torch your Jeep... but you may want to open the top, plant a lemon tree inside and park it in front of the dealer and call the media. It worked for Eddie.

Good luck.

.

First, signatures on the paint don't cause mechanical failures, so why this is even coming up in the conversation is puzzling. Would it make a difference if there were bumper stickers all over it? I mean, this is the site where everyone encourages "individuality," am I right? While I wouldn't do something like that, especially on a $40,000 vehicle, it's not mine and I didn't spend the money on it. If that's something she wanted to do, that's her business. The fact remains some permanent marker doesn't have anything to do with the way a vehicle runs.

On that note, she really needs to get a lawyer involved. Until she does, she's going to continue to be strung along. Once a lawyer gets involved, Chrysler will see how serious she really is.

I think The organizers of one of the largest Harley Rallies in the USA needs to talk to you. I do not think the Laconia, NH Harley Ralley which is I think the longest running one has never had that much in addendence and that ralley is now over 1 week long ! Good Luck with your Jeep and there are some definatly good ideas posted here for you to try.

Puhleeze. The media doesn't care about things like this anymore. They are too busy shilling for Obama to be bothered. Get a lawyer and be done with it. Don't EVER allow the company to dictate to you the terms of what the lemon law is.

You've got a decent lemon law case and I wish you the best of luck with it.

At the same time, I would prepare yourself for some sort of penalty for a new paint job. For your sake I hope you don't, but I'd be surprised if they don't do that.

For once I agree. Let your attorney dictate to Chrysler what the terms of the lemon law are for your state. As I stated earlier, if your situation meets the criteria, Chrysler doesn't have a choice.
