My Experience with So.Cal Dealers

So I have wanted a Jeep Wrangler since I was 16 years old. I'm 28 now and finally finishing off college so I decided as a gift to myself, it was time to finally buy one. My experiences were terrible at most dealerships. Donavee in Anaheim wouldn't budge, although their staff was incredibly kind (Jerry in particular). Huntington Beach Tuttle which boasts to be the number 1 volume dealership gave me an even worse deal than Donavee. Cerritos, was willing to cut me a great deal but had 0 models on the lot that were sport s (all I could afford at the moment) and made no efforts in trying to get me one from another dealership. Finally I found a really great deal with Tuttle in Irvine. JR was a great guy and worked out a phenomenal deal for me, but the only caveat was, I really wanted to swap the seats out for leather. I came from leather cars all my life and although it sounds spoiled and unjeep like, I really wanted it for my own comfort. Thats when I started to search this forum. Thanks to the people on this forum and their input in helping others I was able to find a dealership I was unaware of. Orange Coast in Capistrano, and specifically mentioned by the people here "Fred Latasa"

Fred was an amazing, and genuine individual, he was honest about what he could do for me and what he couldn't. I'm doing Graduate school in the fall and I had a budget that I could not go over, and he did everything he could to not only match Tuttle in Irvine, but superseded it and got me the leather in a sport s! Honestly the entire staff there was polite and very funny, they have a great guarantee on their website that gives you free loaners for service and first years oil changes for free. Also, because I purchased it on the last day of the month and am picking it up on the first, Fred told me if the rates drop, he wouldn't mind rewriting the contract to help me out more; talk about amazing customer service. I don't think I could be any happier than I am now, Fred and OC Capistrano really made the difference, and again, if it wasn't for the people in this forum I wouldn't have found him. I really appreciate everything you forum people do to help one another and looking forward to posting more now that I am an owner myself.

With Fred's permission he has allowed me to give you all his number in case your in the area and seeking out a wrangler, I am doing this because he really did make my purchase easy and upbeat. Give them a chance! 949-373-0100 X 1006

Thanks again Wrangler Forum for the great advice!

First, I didn't know Huntington Beach Jeep was bought by Tuttle Click - when did that happen?

Second, you missed Tuttle Click Tustin Jeep... I've been doing business with them over 20 years. The same Fleet manager has been there for all of those years - which is significant. All the other dealers you mention in the area have been revolving doors - bought, sold or filed bankruptcy at some point.

Santa Ana Jeep was the absolute best at one point... then the owner sold his lucrative dealer to Tustin Jeep to pursue other interests. Tustin hired all the service techs. Tells you something about the integrity of Tustin Jeep...

I buy parts from Don-A-Vee and get my service work from Tustin... if you need names of top-notch service advisers to deal with send me a PM.

You know, in the speed and excitement I had, I may be wrong on the Tuttle part for HB, Actually, I think you're right! I didn't check Tustin, to be honest, nor Santa Ana, but I'd take the advice of a 20 year Jeep veteran had I known you haha. My first years oil changes were included for my car at Capistrano, which was nice. The experience was still exciting though, I am glad I went there for sure! I actually wasn't aware you can bring in parts to a dealers service from another dealership or outside source. Very cool. At least I don't think Acura used to allow that. Thanks for the heads up!

Quick followup! So the rates didn't change, but they were still very cordial about everything which was nice. Now all that is left is to get the leather swapped in with my due bill, still waiting on the call for that.

Also, Fred did move to Huntington Beach Jeep and is now the Fleet manager there, so his updated number is 760-672-4044. I as well as many of the other people on this forum highly recommend him, so if you're looking to get a great deal, give him a shot!

See what I mean about the revolving door... that didn't take long.

HB Dodge, Chrysler Jeep uses old school tactics. I remember in 2005 when the Power Wagon came out they had a $10K dealer markup on MSRP - on a friggin truck!

I hope Fred's customers can get past the dumb ass sales force that's lined up on the lot waiting for their next victim.

HB Chrysler Jeep is not a Tuttle Dealership. They are the #1 dealer by volume and usually have at least 2X the inventory. I am surprised to hear about your experience because I have been there multiple times while shopping and they were one of the very few dealers that posted their discount price, no their "only 1 at this price" on the internet for weeks and willingly honored that price when I arrived.

Donavee does not have the great sales and service they once offered and there seems to be a correlation that farther you move North in Southern California (is that an oxymoron?) the worse the pricing and service becomes. I have bought a Jeep from Tuttle in Irvine and all I can say is the best thing about them is the outstanding Willys MB and trailer when you walk in the showroom floor.

Personally the jury is out for me on Jeep dealers since the great reorg in '09.

HB Chrysler Jeep did me good when I bought my '09 JK last year. Can't remember the sales guys name but we looked at every Jeep on the lot and I found my gem hidden behind a few rows. Took it for a quick test drive and took it home less then 2 hours later.

You are lucky, I wish I had a decent dealership in SWFL. I've had one refuse to find a JKU in Anvil and try in force me into a white JKU they've had on their lot for 8 months for 4% over invoice. They were not happy when I pulled out my Chrysler rewards number.

The other wouldn't give me black book value on my trade after promising me they would. Why show me the book and show me the numbers when you aren't going to appraise my current vehicle in the appropriate trim?
