My first break in

So I had my first “break in” to my jeep yesterday. Someone unzipped a part of my back window to go through my trunk. Luckily I don’t keep anything in there. They even went into the compartment under the storage mat. You have to know its in there so I’m guessing it was someone who was familiar with a jeep.
I guess I should be happy they didn't just take a knife to the windows.

That sucks...
But yeah, be happy that they didn't knife anything. Where you parked on the street? In a driveway? Parking lot?

Oh, and welcome to WF!

Welcome to the forum and I feel your fear! I plan on having a spot light and IP cam with motion sensors/night vision pointed right at my beast ready to record on the CPU. My installed car alarm is not the best but helps.

This?

I just put my soft top on this past weekend I am also worried about somebody breaking in. I park in somewhat a bad area when I catch the bus so I feel its only a matter of time

Thanks!

It actually happened in a mall parking garage. Maybe I should go back and ask for the security tapes.

1. Don't leave anything valuable in it.
2. Don't lock it. If they want in I'd rather them open the door than slit the top.

^^This^^

I don't lock my Jeep for this simple reason. I don't keep anything more valuable than an I-pod Aux. cord in my Jeep. Which has been stolen 2 times in 2 years.

It makes you sick thinking of someone in your vehicle. I know I was super cautious after the first time. Then I realzied that if they want in they'll get in, so I'd rather have to buy a $10 Aux. cord over a $600 top.

Welcome to the Forum! Sorry to hear about your experience, but I promise it will get better! If you have any questions, please let me know.

The compartment in the back is not exactly a secret. They're on so many vehicles these days that it isn't a stretch to check under there for one. Sort of the automotive equivalent of hiding your wallet in a shoe at the beach. A check of the vehicle can be completed relatively quickly, plenty of time to poke around back there if you're a thief.

Sorry to hear about your luck. So, when you are getting the Tuffy security enclosure and/or a hard top? =)

THis doesn't qualify as a break-in. It's your first un-zip.

I implemented a very successful theft-deterrent system in college with my YJ. I rarely cleaned it out, so I had old newspapers, old school papers, etc, etc. no one ever messed with my stuff because it already looked like it had been ransacked. I never kept any valuables in it anyhow.

I am sorry to hear about someone messing with your Jeep!

When I park at the airport for a trip I empty all the compartments and leave then open. I don't lock the jeep. Did this when I had the doors off too. I didn't even want people poking around in there.

Well, they didn't interrupt because he wasn't there at the time. And they didn't enter illegally , they just reached in illegally.

Therefore it was an unzip.

Im thinking about putting my soft top on and am worried about this problem as well. Arn't you at all worried someone will throw something in your car or just screw with it? Also, taking the door off for instance, how easy is it to hot wire a jeep? Is anybody at all worried about that?

I'd be super worried if I had NO insurance But the law says you need it to drive legally on the roads. My policy covers it all, including vandalism, theft, fire. Hell I even put collision(which costs me extra) on as well since no one is a perfect driver. Check your insurance policy, maybe you don't have the coverage you need.

This is one of the main reasons that I'm glad I was able to convince my wife to choose a hard top instead of her original soft top choice. Glad they apparently didn't do any damage, Terpeagles.
