My first stuck.

Took 45 minutes to get out. Was by myself..... Won't be doing that again.

I was up to the side steps, there were no tracks before I tried to go through this.

Learned 2 things about the cleanup of this mud, 1: If you don't get ALL that heavy mud out of the wheels, your Jeep will shake like a paint mixer going down the road. 2> Scrubbing the mud off of the soft top is a real pain.....

I hate mud.

You should take someone with you to pull you out when you break new trails.

I got my 1st "stuck" over the weekend also HOWEVER I had buds with me. One of which lived in the town we were wheeling in sooooo..... Beep beep beep, beep beep beep beep.... ring ring.... John, its Chuck and I'm stuck AGAIN. Ok Chuck, I'm on the way. 20 mins later a fellow Jeepers shows up and we are out. We had actually been through this bog about 50 times the long way. Going through it sideways proved to be an "issue" lol

Yeah mine also shook like a beast till I got home and scraped all the crap out.

Good learning experience for me. Congrats on your FIRST "stuck"
Here is my pics...

You need better tires to wheel mud, and air down some.... And you already figured out not to wheel alone..... But it's good to know you aren't afraid to get a little dirty. I spent 2 hours yesterday washing off Sunday's mud....

They call them "all terrain" tires, but there's one terrain they can't do- MUD. That's why, as CLJ said, mud tires exist Mark W.

I don't think a tire exists that would have gotten you out of that mess.... Buried to the frame is pretty much a goner I think....

As a general rule AAA doesn't do off-road recovery-in a little back country town, it might be different, but

Generally the only tow-truck recovery, has to be neighboring town-LOCAL and that gonna BE EXPENSIVE !!

Figure $250 to $1000 bucks, unless they're friends that work for the company

After I went all the way up the EAST side of Pyramid Lake (NV), I was told that any recovery would start at $1000--if the jeep was still there (Indian Reservation)!!!

Anyway don't go out alone if you're gonna play in mud !!

Like I said, it was the going though it from the side that did it in. The bottom of the hole was only as wide as the Jeep wheel base. Oh well!! Live and learn right??

Here is Chuck in 2 wheel just for fun. Even got through it in Reverse.

Good advice here.

And you might also attach a snap-strap to a recovery point on your Jeep before going in; run it inside and shut the door over it. Then, when you get stuck, pop open the door and toss the free end to your buddy.

My friend Nut was pretty stuck here.

And I didn't get stuck but still wound up like this one day:

If you have AAA "All Premier Services", they'll come and winch you out once a year. Will also flatbed your trailer along with your Jeep if need be.
Two 100-mile tows and one 200-mile tow. Good insurance against stupid.

I hate mud also, but my daughter seems to love it when we get stuck and she gets out in it and has to bring the snatch line to the next guy.

In California, the only way AAA will provide any off-road towing service is if your vehicle is STUCK, within 100' of a paved road !!

I've never got stuck in mud. I'm too lazy to clean most of it off anyway.

I have got stuck though. Once trying to straddle deep dried mud tire tracks, I slipped and was pretty much doing a balance dance on my skid plate and only two wheels. Few little rocks and my Jeep floor mats, and I was out.
Second time was a freak accident! I was going through a spot of soft powder-like desert dirt... the kind you really don't want to stop in. Anyway, to my surprise there was a nice large boulder just peeking out of the ground high enough to get me but not high enough to see over the dirt. Stopped dead in my tracks as the front diff. landed right on top of it. That was a pain to get out of... pissed me off to because it hurt. Crap happens eh? :P

I got stuck once, but it was in high school and I was driving my Honda Prelude. Damndest thing, both front tires were off the ground due to some silly little mound of dirt in the road. The cops came by, and after we got yelled at for being in a place we shouldn't have been and then after they took our beer (which was not so cleverly hidden in the bushes), helped get me unstuck and sent me home, promising that if they saw me out again that night that they would arrest me. Ah, the good old days.
