My head cracked!

Got an engine light a couple of days ago. At first I thought it was a lose gas cap, tightened it( one more click, what else?) and the light went off. Then the next day it can on again. Took it to Jeep in Victorville,Ca. They told me the 2012 model has seen heads cracking at #4 cylinder. My luck, the heads cracked. Hope to get it today.
Check with your dealer and maybe get a "Head Start" to a problem. ;~)

How did they find the crack? Did they pull the heads and get them magnafluxed?

I'm guessing they did a compression check. The OBD2 flagged a miss firing #4 plug. So he suspected the problem. And I then left it and was called later with the news. Lucky I'm still under warranty. Maybe a recall coming?

I wish I could say it is the ticking problem. I would call your dealer and start asking. Maybe do a checkup.

It won't be the heads again. You're getting the new Borg Warner designed head my buddy worked on that project so I'm biased but clearly it seems good

I had a misfiring cylinder in my Challenger... just a bad coil. I suppose they tested this before popping the head.

I got the engine light at 20600. But I have notice it was a little sluggish in 2nd accelerating up to third. Also, there seems to be to much black soot on the tail pipe tip. Related?

I just had the same symptoms (check engine light with P0520 fault) at only 5200 miles on my 2013 10A JK. Low compression on Cylinder #2--replaced the cylinder head. Back to running great, but I'm right there with you…waiting for the next one to have problems!

Never heard of a head cracking on the 2012s. I think sometimes the dealers embellish facts or they offer explanations that they think make it easier for customers to understand.

The valve guide and seat material on the head was inadequate. It's was a design flaw in the early Pentastars. The material ends up burning off and you get compression loss on the left cylinder bank (2,4,6) because it runs hotter than the right side. This causes a misfire code. The new head has improved materials and design to fix this problem.
