My jeep after a little over a month of ownership!!!

So I've owned my jeep for a bit over a month and I have already done the following:

1- Painted stock 18" wheels black (left the center cap silver to add some contrast)

2- Painted the brake calipers (which were a hideous rough silver color) with a pretty well matching blue engine enamel

3 - Removed the stock silver bumper covers (the middle silver plastic covers over the front and rear bumpers)

4 - Installed 6 grab handles (4 up front & 2 in the rear)

5 - Installed my old Alpine Type S 12" Sub with a Rocford Amp

6 - Made a mesh grille insert & painted it black (the gutter guard mod

TELL ME WHAT YOU GUYS THINK!!

Next mods: Black out tail lights, Hypertech Max Energy programmer, seat covers

Anybody know of a manufacturer of seat covers that are of good quality and somewhat match the surf blue color of my Jeep?

THANKS GUYS!!

Lookin' Sweet. What's the license plate mean?

You'll get some push back, especially from us older farts, about black-out taillights. We like safety more than fashion. But you're definitely making that rig your own.

Haha ya I was on the fence about it but I figure a little brake cleaner can quickly wipe away a bad decision if it turns out that way!

Btw thanks! AND the license plate was an old nickname of mine (kinda still is )

Back in college and high school I had a long distance/long-term relationship (terrible mistake) & whenever I sold out on my buds to hang with her they said I was "prisoning out" AKA selling out on them...not sure how that came to be but it stuck so I eventually accepted it and now its my plate haha

Woodsballnc:

Couldnt tell ya!! Obviously have taken the 2 freedom panels off but I wanted to make a rig in the garage to make removing the back panel a lot easier before I ventured down that path

I tinted my tails today, it doesn't take much to make them look much better, and they really show up just about as well as untinted. Nightshades is easy, just remember the housing is black so they look darker installed than on the newspaper on the ground

Oh and your Jeep looks great! I like the painted calipers and wheels! I think Iggee's or wet okley seat covers come in a blue that is similar to yours.. If you know someone handy you can always have some made to suit you too.

YW! I posted pics of mine in the "what did you do for your jeep... " thread.

I couldn't remember where I was reading/thinking about doing this this morning... I'm gonna get in trouble and it's all your fault!

Would love info on how you did your wheels. I.E. type of paint, how you applied it, sealant, etc.

Wrangler X:

First: Removed the wheels and cleaned them thoroughly w/brake cleaner and soap/water

2nd: Lightly brush them with a scotch brite pad to rough them up just a little bit (mostly to remove some clearcoat)

3rd: Clean again thoroughly & tape off what you dont want to paint (tire etc)

4th: Sprayed several very light coats from 12 - 16" away of Rustoleum Hi-heat BBQ semi-gloss spray paint (available at walmart

5th: AFter the paint has dried I sprayed about 2 - 3 light coats of Rustoleum gloss clearocoat

Then let them dry for a few hours and you can remount them (but be careful I only grabbed the tire to mount them and was real careful when tightening lugs)

I drove on them after only about 12 hours of drying (at night) and the paint has held up perfectly (some recommend to wait a full day)

I've had WetOkole's in yellow-pretty KEWL, but

Check IGGEE's, I've got their synleather in my JK and they're the best I've had in an off-road vehicle-looking on their site I see some Beautiful blue-combo seat covers

Checkemout

So you did them one wheel at a time? And you couldn't use the jack that came with the jeep?

^^^ Definitely! A Bestop Trektop would look fantastic!

But since he can't afford jackstands, it might be a while before he can afford a new top....

Haha thanks Infernogirl! Well I AM a law student with no job because I am NOT allowed to work while in law school and all I got is financial aid so some things cant be purchased!!

CaptainObvi: No I did 2 at a time. Jacked up the front axle, took both wheels off, cleaned/painted/etc those 2 then carefully bolted them back on snug. Then jacked up the rear, took the back 2 off etc etc

I havent looked at the stock jack yet...but I am sure that a jack like the one I have is much much easier/faster than a stock jack.

As far as the soft top...I had the option when I bought it to have the hard top removed (what I originally wanted) and a soft top installed instead. BUT there is a rumor (possibly true) that the hard top manufacturer of our JKs is involved in a lawsuit b/c someone is trying to steal his patents etc so the hard top JKs are going to be worth their weight in gold over the stock soft tops. Obviously an aftermarket soft top in addition to the stock hard top would not encounter this but for now Im definitely content with the freedom panels!
