Safe to say you are not alone...mine leaks down the rear window, and puddles up in the area where there is a bolt that helps hold down my subwoofer. Not really sure how I am gonna seal that on my own as I open my back window almost daily. I'll probably just have to drop it off at a dealership and see if my warranty still covers it. The weather strip looks fine...whatever

mine is back to the dealer today, they say "we're not really having problems with the rear, huh, we will check it out" mine as yours is leaking most on the side at the subwoofer, so much so, now the bracket is starting to rust, seems worse with the new seals, we shall see, I will post after they have a look see.

leaking back freedom top

Took my 09 rubicon freedom top to the dealer yesterday, bad leak both sides of the back. The service added a stiffener to the bottom of the back glass behind the seal that is between the glass and the tail gate. He said the glass is weak and will give against the new seal. Waiting for rain to see.

Use a hose and seee if you can make it leak. I'm going to be doing that tonight after i pick up my 07 sf top.

I had an early 08 Sahara Unlimited hardtop that leaked at mid wind-shield and Chrysler took it back in August 08. In got a late year model 08 Rubicon Unlimited. The first two storms, the top leaked in the exact same place. I took it in, they made adjustments and since then, knock on plastic, no leaks. Don't ask me any details about the exchange as my lips have been sealed by contract. Starting in model year 09, they moved the center clamp on the freedom top forward to engage the center wind-shield tie-down loop. I would be surprised if it leaks there since that change on the clamp. My dealer worked with me on the leak and made it right. I enjoy my newer jeep just as much as the original and even more since I upgraded to the Rubicon.

I know that eventually, even this one will start leaking somewhere because there is just too much gasket on a jeep for this not to happen. Outside of the warranty, it will then fall to me to fix the leaks. I will do so with a sh1t eating grin on my face, the same grin that has graced my face since I took delivery of the first jeep and has lasted to the present day. The downfall of owning such a versatile jeep is having to deal with lots of water, both on the road and on the trail. Some water that falls out of the sky and some that falls in when you run into wet areas on the trail. Once out of warranty and when my pocket can afford it, it will have no carpets and be bed lined on the interior. I think that this herein mentioned is what separates the casual jeep owner/driver from the true jeep enthusiasts. I bought mine for both on road use and off road use. Eventually it won't be my daily driver and it will see more off road use than on road. But that is just me. Everybody has their own reasons for owning one.

That all being said, paying $35,000.00 for a new jeep, one should expect that it will be delivered without leaks. I'm in that group. Eventually I will consider leak solving just one of the fun and interesting parts of jeep ownership. After all, it is a jeep. My friends think I'm crazy sticking with a jeep after the exchange...they just don't get it...I think I got the jeep thing really bad. Probably worse than H1N1 .

No leak

Got it back from the shop last night after work. Drove it home and got out the hose. I took a look at the area over top of where the door handle is to see if I could see and difference in the weather sealing. To me it looks like they replaced the small foam piece on the soft top with a softer more ply-able piece. This foam is located in front of the plastic piece that snaps into the door surround on the soft top. anyway I sprayed it with the hose for about 10 min, nothing happened, no leak. I even sprayed it on full blast on that spot to see if I could blow any water through there. nothing. Nadda Zip. It then sat out all night in light rain and no leak either. I guess it could be fixed only time will tell though.

I've got a number of things I do to mine to keep from leaking, but

To lower the possibilities of winshield leaks--never tighten the two rear thumbscrews, just light-fingertighten them LAST !!

leaking rear window/tailgate

tgates,,,,you are so not alone...was just showing my girlfreind what you posted,,,,because i had my jeep at the dealership 2 days ago,,,,and the idiots said the mechanic did a leak test,,,and cleaned the seals in the back,,,and it should be ok now...i was extreemly skeptical,,and i think he could read it all over my face,,,,but,,,i gave them the benefit of the doubt,,,,s i walked out to get my jeep,,,opened my rear window/tailgate,,,and i still had water stains on the inside of the window where i suspected on leak area,,and also the seal that they were suppose to have cleaned,,,was still dirty as hell..so i knew right away they did nothing about this.. so today it rains of course,,,and just as i thought,,,the freking thing is leaking ..so now i have no confidence in them...infact,,,i think they are so aware of all tese leak issues,,,that they are told to ignore them by the dealership...keep putting them off,,,till the warrnty runs out,,,then we are screwed...anyhow...i don't think they have any solutions to all these problems with leaking, and 99% of dealerships are made to ignore them if they can...maybee we need to have a jeep jamboree with everyone here who has problems,,,and drive right to the frekin plat where they make them,,and insist they fix the problems,,or we will not leave,,,lol....maybee in a perfect world i guess...anyhow...sorry for the long story,,,,but you are not alone dude!!!

It has rained one day and wet snow again today. My unit appears to be dry so far. Maybe, just maybe, the stiffener the dealer installed along the bottom of the back glass has worked. No leaks in front so far either. LIG

my '10 2-door leaks where the strike plate meets the window sails of the top. my top is a sunrider and i believe there are a couple of issues that are snowballing the leaks. the sail windows seem to be cut and stitched too small and not getting enough fabric to wrap around and then it also seems that the cable that runs from the spring inside the sunrider pushes out against the sails. that is causing even more of a gap for water to channel right in and collect on the surface where a hard top secures to the body. i dont know whats going on but that seems to be what i am deducting, the jeep has been back to the dealership multiple times in which they have already replaced the top, driver side sail window, driver side door seal and driver side strike plate...it still leaks!!!!!! can anyone help me with suggestions?? please

Caught mine in time to get it dried out before it rusted, had plenty of mositure though, all the way under the back catches on the rear seat and standing water. Everything still dry this morning. I think the stiffener on the back glass with new seals might, I say might, have fixed it.

Still leaking, probably worse since the dealer replaced the seals. I found a TSB on JK-Forum about leaking freedom top, but it does not mention the back
No, I had a leak in the rear also, they replaced the window gasket and that fixed it.

Mine was replaced also and the gasket at the rear wiper.

Had to go back and they installed a plastic stiffener along the bottom of the glass, they said the glass was not stiff enough for the seal without it.

Has not leaked so far.

Just follow this thread backwards to see the time I have had, but fixed now, all seals replaced front and rear, including freedom top panel seals.

What was the service that actually fixed the leak and where was it leaking? On an 07 that may be out of warranty, getting to the actual fix for the leak sooner rather than later will be a lot less costly.

I found water in the floor on both sides in the front, coming from the seals around the freedom panels, that's what I understood from the dealer, they replaced all the seals around the top in front.

Water was puddled in the back in the jack storage and under the carpet up to the back of the rear seat was wet from condensation.

The dealer replaced all the rear seals around the back glass, wiper grommet and the rear gate and it still leaked. They added a plastic stiffener to the bottom of the back glass, it has been a couple of months and no leaks.

I did not noticed any leaks, until I got in one day this past winter when the temperature was around mid 30's and had condensation inside the hardtop behind the front seat, starting looking around and found water, water everywhere...

^^ Hmmmm...sounds like it was leaking in multiple places. The rear seemed to be fixed by the stiffner?

Your best estimate on the leak in the front which fix do you think cured it...or was it cured.

So far it has not leaked in the front, I think it was coming in around the freedom top panels and running down the A pillars inside the plastic cover, I never did see any water until I found the carpet wet and pulled it back to find 1/2 in the floor.

The stiffener fixed the back, it was still leaking after a round of new seals, I took it back and that was all they done, added the plastic stiffener, no leaks since. The piece they added kinda looked like it was molded to fit, I think it came with the seals and they missed gluing it on when they replaced the seals, just my guess.

Mine leaks also. Last summer it started leaking like a sieve - it was fine if it was just parked, but if I drove it in the rain and then got out and checked the drivers side carpets they were soaked. I brought it in and they water tested it and drove it in the rain, and said they didn't see a leak. When I went out and checked the carpets they were again soaked (I had dried the carpets throroughly before I brought it in). I think they were actually looking to SEE water coming in, but never bothered to check the carpets. What was happening was that when I drove it, water would run up the windshield, seep through the seals, and run down along the sides straight into the carpet. So when I left it with them again, they dismantled it so they could actually see the leak. They replaced the front seals and the driver door seal. (Of course the driver door wasn't leaking, and now it is, so whatever). Anyway, the problem was mostly fixed. Now this spring, I noticed another leak coming from where the two panels meet toward the back. At first I thought it was a little drip, which is no big deal. However, I got in one day to find a pool of water in my back seat, so I brought it back again, and showed them EXACTLY where it was leaking. When I went to pick it up three days later they said they water tested it again and couldn't find a leak. Again, I checked the carpets, which I had again dried throughly, and they were damp. So then they offered to water test it with me in the car. Well, water testing with a garden hose isn't going to simulate anything but a light mist, but what happens when a torrential downpour causes a flood in my jeep? They insisted they looked at it and put the panels back on tightly, and it shouldn't leak anymore. However, now the drivers panel rattles around since they screwed with it, so I took it off again to see if I could get it back on tightly. While I was at it I checked the seals again, to get a better look. You can actually see where the seals are peeling away from the panels. I get that Jeep wants to replicate a problem before they do warranty work, but if they can physically see that the seals are peeling off, why can't they just replace them instead of making me go back every time it rains? It's been back three times already, and if it leaks again and they insist they can't fix it, I'm seriously considering filing for lemon law.

I love my Wrangler, but the Freedom Top is more trouble than it's worth.

Hey guys, I got a 2007 sahara 4 door also with the same problems..I put on weather stripping around the front part of both doors..I acutally stopped the leak. Now if rains for about a day or some i will get some small leaking but nothing like it use to be..Double up on the weather stripping. The soft top will still fit and the doors will still close with not problem..Its a cheap way to solve the problem..Good luck every1.

I had a 98 TJ that would leave you an inch of water on the floorboards after every rain...Now that was a leak.

Tell them about the plastic stiffener they put on mine, it worked, I have got the dealer ordering me a new woofer bracket now, mine is rusted also. Had one small problem after they installed the stiffener, said the seal had a small kink in it, has rained since had in last for oil change...no leaks. LIG
