My New "Doors Off" Mirrors

I've tried different mirror configurations with my doors off, none of which have been satisfactory. First, I tried Harley mirrors - not bad, but rather small and they vibrated a little...and well, they look like motorcycle mirrors. Still, they might have been adequate except I couldn't use them when I added my Or-Fab tube doors.

Then, I tried the Rugged Ridge relocation brackets to move my mirrors. The passenger-side mirror was useless with the doors on, and even with the doors off, I could only see about half of the passenger-side mirror and it left a huge blind spot. Also, my tube doors would bump the mirrors if they were swung wide open.

I added the 2" stick-on convex mirrors to the a/c vents after reading about them on this forum. They help with the blind spots, but to me aren't the total solution.

Next, I tried these Rugged Ridge quick-release mirrors: Rugged Ridge 11025.10 - Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirror Kit for 97-11 Jeep® Wrangler TJ, JK, TJ Unlimited & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

I couldn't find anyone that had written a review of these. These mirrors have met all my criteria. They are large enough to see well, the passenger side mirror is clearly visible, and there is no noticeable vibration at highway speeds. Also, there is good clearance when I use my tube doors.

The mirrors use the upper windshield bracket bolts and attach with a thick gasket to prevent scratching the paint. The arms are adjustable as well the mirrors. The mirrors can be removed with a turn screw within seconds. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a good mirror solution with the doors off.

To me, aftermarket mirrors that don't vibrate at highway passes with flying colors in my book... Mine vibrate at 25 haha

Thanks for the write up. Those look like a great solution. I have the olympic mirrors and I'm not crazy about them. The sit kind of low and vibrate like crazy. I might have to replace them.

This may be a dumb question if so I apologize I just woke up and am still foggy. Can this bracket stay on with doors on and if so will I have to be careful when opening said door?

Thanks for the write up. it looks perfect!

Not a dumb question at all. With the doors on, the brackets do not interfere with the doors or with the factory mirrors mounted on the doors. I leave both the brackets and turn screws on, although you might want to leave only the bracket.

Since I had to put the doors on last night because of rain, here is a pic with the doors on. This is with the doors fully extended with the strap on. It may be a little hard to see but the door clears the bracket by a couple of inches. Even with the strap off, it would clear the bracket.

I don't lower the windshield so I can't help you there.

Edit: can I also ask where you got your antenna/how is the reception?

Assuming the weather holds, the doors come back off tomorrow and I'll take a couple of pictures.

The antenna is from antennax.com: EuroStyle 13" Flexible Rubber Antenna

Reception is good in the city, but it's not as strong if you're in the country. I mostly use my I-pod so it's ok for the few times I use the radio. However, I like the profile of the 13" black antenna. My JKU is mostly Mango Tango and black or charcoal. I'm slowly removing all the silver, decals, etc.

Those are the Die-Tech Off-road Mirror Brackets. I have those too and I like them. They place the OEM mirrors in almost the same position they are in when on the doors, so really no need to re-adjust them after relocating them. I prefer tube doors as opposed to doorless, and since these mirror brackets mount on the door hinge, I rarely use them since getting my tube doors. And now since getting the Rugged Ridge Quick Release Mirror Kits, I'll probably have no need to use my Die-Tech Mirror Brackets anymore.

Die-Tech Off-road Mirror Brackets

I have these on my JK and absolutely LOVE them...takes about 5 minutes to install, and keeps the original mirrors on with the exact same placement.

I'm not ready to part with them yet. I have to make sure over time that this Rugged Ridge setup will last. And also I'm not sure I'd want to use the RR mirrors on the trail since they stick out quite a bit and can't just flip in and back out as needed.

I think off-road, I'll just loosen them enough to bring them in toward to the Jeep if I have the doors off. I don't think you'd want to leave them sticking out and risk losing one. I don't really need the side mirrors on the trails anyway.

Another option for mirror

I just posted on another thread but I found a mirror today at my local Honda ATV/Motorcycle dealer (got the idea from this forum). They are Kuryakyn mirrors. Worked very well...they have 3 different size hex head bolts included...the bolt slips in from underneath hinge and is perfect fit. I did put the washers with little teeth on top and bottom (sorry...can't think of technical name of washer....and yes, i would make fun of my wife for calling them that too so I need to remember that next time!?!?) They cost about 40-50 bucks...I seen them on ebay too. here is a pic....looks pretty good IMO.

That's a nice looking mirror! Does it come in black as well?

BTW, I believe "star washer" was the term you were looking for.

star Washer!!!!!

Star Washer...yes...thaaaaank you! Sometimes the mind goes blank.....

I have not been able to find the mirror in black or would have bought that color! But i think I will actually paint the "arm / bracket" flat black and leave the mirror chrome....maybe a nice contrast...match the wheels???

Able to take the jeep for a nice drive last night....the Kuryakyn mirror was great. Not a great big view but just enough and no vibration!
