My Own 10th Anniversary Rubicon

...complete with the red accents!

I bought an original 2003 Rubicon when they were released. I just sold it (with only 23K miles on it) and bought the 2013. I was one of those purists who called the JKs "Foofoo jeeps". I had license plate frames made for my girlfriend's 2008 JK that say "Sally's Mean Green Foofoo Machine."

Well...now I'm kinda likin' the power windows and doors, auto AC, fancy interior, curvacious exterior, quiet ride, etc., etc. I haven't had a chance to get out on any trails with it yet, but I don't expect to be disappointed.

However...I wish I still had a CJ.

Took these photos on the way home this afternoon.

So what does a 2003, 23,000 mile Rubicon sell for? Just curious. If you do not disclose i understand.

It was pretty heavily modified and absolutely spotless....looked like a new jeep. I started out asking $24,000, but ended up selling it for $19,500. The guys at Moab 4x4 Outpost said they were surprised I didn't sell it at the original asking price. But Moab is a small town and and late Fall is not the best time to sell. I'm sure I could have gotten more for it during next year's Jeep Safari. Most 2003 Rubicon's in Utah were selling for around $13-14,000 last time I checked. Trade-in offers on mine ranged from $14,000 to $17,500. I sold it to a guy in Pennsylvania.

Very nice, love the photos. These could be ad photos for the Jeep. I'm from Arizona, now live in Michigan. Your photos remind me how much I miss the mountains.

Thanks...I probably should admit that I've earned my living as a photographer for the past 36 years.

But...now you live closer to the Jeep factory.

Awesome Jeep! Looks better than Chrysler's 10th Anniversary Rubicon, too!

The tires are only about an inch taller and wider than stock. I haven't had it on a trail yet but I doubt that there will be any issues. My tire guy and I both checked for potential rubbing after the tires were installed and did not see any problems. If it rubs anywhere when flexing, I''ll deal with that when and if I encounter it.

Why did you go with tires only about an inch taller/wider than the factory set? Did the factory setup just look too small with that lift? I just can't imagine an inch making that much of a difference in looks.

Your rig looks great and I'm only asking because that's the exact lift I'm wanting to do.

Yep...Wranglers are getting pretty dang fancy inside...maybe too fancy. However, the dash overlay material is actually much more rugged and easier to care for than the OEM dash surfaces. I've put dash overlays in every vehicle I've bought in the last 15 years or so...sometimes wood...sometimes carbon fiber. I'm totally sold on them.

But you still can't beat the flat metal dash of the ol' CJs for ease of maintenance. Air conditioning? Just open the windows and take the top off. I thought my TJ interior was flirting with fanciness when I bought it. It was the first Jeep I had with air conditioning.

My cj doesn't even have a working top anymore and I lost the doors a year ago and just bought some for my pops so he doesn't get too cold since the heater caught on fire last year as well. It is nice though to be able to get a jeep and know that everything works when you bring it home.

Actually, it's 3 photos...my girlfriend in the mirror was taken the same day in the Needles.

The main reason I switched tires was because it looked like the KM2s would be somewhat better in winter than the original KMs. There does appear to be considerably more rubber in contact with the road...and the closely spaced treads almost looked like siping in photos. I live at 6000 feet elevation 26 miles outside of Moab...and my driveway is on a steep, north facing slope that is usually covered with snow and ice almost all winter. Even though I plow it with the John Deere after each heavy snowstorm, it still requires 4WD from December through early March most years. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much bigger the new KM2s looked on the jeep than the stock tires.

Great looking Jeep, better looking photos, and confirmation that my second Jeep will be some type of JK in billet.
