My Willys will have the 3.73. Should I get the tow group, too?

Sorry for posting what I know has been touched on in other threads, but I could not locate it by searching.

I'm about to order a 2015 Willys. I know I do want a hitch, but I did see one suggestion to just add it aftermarket - after all, the Willys has my 3.73.

Thoughts on this?

How hard is it to run the wiring if I add an aftermarket hitch? Has jeep run it some of the way for us, or am I going to have to work at it to get it in a protected area, or do folks zip tie it on to something that is subject to dirt and mud?

Thanks!

Save some cash and go aftermarket. If I showed you the instructions on how to install the hitch, you would laugh. It is single picture with 4 bolts. The instructions are basically....put hitch in position....install 4 bolts.

I looked at several other vendor's hitches, but couldn't beat the price and the quality of the Quadratec hitch. Especially for the $79.97 complete kit. Installing it was simple and the wiring connects to the factory taillight harness. It even has fasteners that fit into factory holes in the frame to hold the wiring in place. Very nice product!

Since it's such an easy/cheap thing, you might be able to get negotiate with your dealer to add it in for you. I confess ignorance about negotiating leverage on custom orders, but I bought a Jeep off the lot that had almost everything I wanted and the salesman agreed to toss on a hitch without much discussion at all.

Thanks, everyone. I looked at the quadratec product and am confident I can handle it without hurting my new jeep :)

I was able to install my hitch and wiring by myself. Mike was just there to provide guidance and moral support. :D

It was one of the first mods I did all by myself!

I just installed the Rugged Ridge hitch and wiring harness. I was skeptical at $60 (Amazon) but fit was perfect and I can't tell the difference between this and the Mopar one. Took about 40 min and took off the bumper to make it easier. The wiring harness looks factory and all of the clips were in the right spot. Pretty impressed with it.

Yea, I installed the same RR hitch from Amazon & the Curt Reciever(2") for a total of $85.00. Easy install, didn't remove the bumper, I instead cheated. Looking @ the pics of the hitch it looks as though the nuts are welded on but they aren't. I super glued the washers & nuts in place as though they where welded on, then installed easily.
