I did mine backwards so not sure I am the best one to comment. You suppose to got through the grill and take out the lens. I still say removing the horn on the driver side is a lot easier then removing the whole lens. Now the passenger side losing the power steering fluid tank and pushing it to the side wasn't as easy but I still did it in 20 minutes.

Owners manual has the correct procedures.

If you remove the grill the headlight comes out with 3 screws each. Took about 20 minutes to remove grill, swap bulbs and reinstall the grill

Here's some pics of what you'll be doing, and when you want some good light, upgrade to the new harness/relay/headlights...

I've got the bulbs to install. Pending outcome there, I may well upgrade with these reflectors & harness.

Thanks for the link.

Check the Danile Stern route before you go with the rally's. I like the bulb upgrade alone a lot. You might want more.

before low beam

after low beam

sorry the 'before high beam' series did not survive a 'replace battery pack' crisis in the old pocket cam...

but there is obviously a TREMENDOUS difference....

now to go drive the Beastie....

Note on install:
read the posts here.....heed the warnings of how to NOT do it wrong...and follow the manual...it took about35 minutes including hiking around looking for a 10T torx driver....didnt' have one so a 9 took 'em out & an old small flat blade put 'em in...

THESE things are a bit odd to work with.....don't quite work as well as the (optimistic owner manual) said, but still did ok....had to use some small pliers to grip & pull 'em out of their little sockets...

but all went well.

There was a tight fit on driver's side wires but it can be done WITHOUT disassembling of other stuff than just the grill and headlight rim screws.

final update:

went county road cruising tonight....this Xtreme Philips +80 bulb set is really WONDERFUL!!!!

Great coverage of road/ditches on low, magnificent coverage with low beam & fog lights on....just what I was hoping for.

The Bright beam is MARKED upgrade from the lame stock bulbs.

This was definitely a WINNER product!!!
