My XHD Bumper Install

Got my bumper installed today. It was a COLD install out in the ~15 deg F snowy wonderland of my driveway today! Through my desire to hurry up a bit too much I blindly was trying to cut the little zip-tie-like connections that secured the fog-light wiring to the front bumper I accidentally cut through the wires...no biggie but had to take more time and fix my screwup. Other than that, install went good and I think it looks awesome!

Bumper showed up and I unpacked it earlier this week:

I was impressed with how beefy the front hook-points are!

Before the install:

Got the bumper off, temporarily lost feeling in fingers (~20mins and some hot cocoa and back to it!):

Aww crap...

And here she is!

Went out for a drive in winter-wonderland...

And here she is with most of the snow brushed off:

Looks nice...congrats on the bumper. I still have mine in my basement. I'm gonna wait until it's warmer before I install.

Had to double take at your video for a sec - I live off of US31, but in Northern Indiana.

Looks good.

Except for the snow part. I complain when it drops below 60║.F here

...what an animal!

...patience is a virtue my friend but i understand where you're coming from...you just...can't.....wait.

...i got a 'cooltech ultramount' cb setup and a 'shorty antennae' for the radio staring at me on the dining room table right now but it's -4 degrees out there right now!

...temp has got to come up at least another 30 degrees for that kind of effort.

I read somewhere that that bumper can cause your front end to ride lower cause of the weight, is that true?
or was you jeep not stock to start?
nice bumper that is the one I am thinking about right now

seems like it is a good price too, also looking for the cheapest price on one of these babies, if anyone has any ideas.
is it all ready for a winch or do you need more parts?

Well, it's probably a bit heavier than stock so it will ride a little lower, but nothing that I've noticed without breaking out the measuring tape.

So far I'm really happy with the bumper. It's not just looks on those attachment points! I put them through their paces on Sunday afternoon! I also just got done mounting a winch on it (which I'm sure drops down the 'ol front end a bit more) and it's a nice snug fit. I actually had to use an angle grinder to hack a tiny corner of the bumper mount point on the Jeep frame and I also have only like 1/8" between the winch and the bumper on the front so I don't have room to put the fairlead mounting bolts...gonna think on that one for a bit, maybe post a ? to see what others have done.

For the moment I'm planning on leaving it as is. I might consider the storage end caps later for a convenient place to throw some recovery gear.

I too have an XHD bumper and Stainless Steel Hoop on the way. Should arrive tomorrow. I was also thinking about getting the Superwinch EP9 or Talon and almost ordered it but then found out that there were some issues mounting it and with attaching the fairlead. Did you have trouble with the winch mounting holes? Did you have to drill new ones? Any luck with the fairlead? I would love to see some pics if you have them.

Thank you.

Had a few minor inconveniences on the EPi9.0 Winch install, but nothing that a little bit of metal grinding couldn't take care of. (A basic angle grinder can be had for dirt cheap at Harbor Freight...it's what I've had and used for a few years without any issues)

Here's a link for my winch install
