MyGig Phone Question

I was planning on buying a 2010 Rubicon, but the dealer kept jerking me around with when they were actually going to get it in, and I felt like it was never going to happen. So I pulled the plug on the whole thing. Anyway, I went to another dealership tonight and found a great 2010 Mountain edition in black. I put a deposit on it, and hopefully will be picking it up tomorrow.

Anyway, long story short, it doesn't have navigation and I need it for the driving I do. I like the factory look, so I was thinking about picking up a MyGig on eBay, they go for about $1250.

My concern is that a few years ago, I put an after market Pioneer nav with Bluetooth in my wife's car, and no one could ever hear her on the phone, no matter where I put the microphone. My current car has the Bluetooth stock, and I have never had a problem.

For the people that have added the microphone to their MyGig, are people having problems hearing you (not with the top down of course). And where did you mount your mic?

Also, anyone ever buy a MyGig off of eBay and install it?

Thx!!

I installed my microphone on the drivers side windshield post beside the visor mount and everyone hears me fine with the hardtop. With the top down you may have trouble...

I figured as much with the top down, but how about with the soft top up?

When you buy the mic from the dealer the instructions show to mount it on the top of the pillar by the visor. No issues with people hearing me either. Only had the soft top on once but I don't think it was any different than with the hardtop.

I too bought the factory nav unit off eBay for $1100. Just make sure it's one from a Wrangler and not another Chrysler product. Install took about 10 minutes.

I have a 2010 Wrangler Sahara with the whole MyGiG nav, bluetooth, HDD and the whole deal. I have no problems talking to people, and they don't have any problems hearing me either whenever I'm talking to them. Even with the top down, as long as I'm not cruising at 80MPH, they can hear me really good. I mean obviously I don't whisper, but I don't feel like I have to yell either. Mine is mounted on the left hand side right next to the visor. Mine is stock though, from the dealer that way I assume though. Hope that helps.

I have a 2008 Rubi Unltd and it came with the MyGig Nav. I added the Mopar Mic. I mounted it to the left side of the Nav system right below the dash. It was super easy and no one has ever commented they had trouble hearing me.

Thx for the info guys, this is all going to help out a lot. I picked up my Mountain on Saturday and I'm already loving it more then any other jeep I've had. I ordered the parts for the nav and mic, so hopefully I will have them by this weekend to do the install.

Thanks again!!

Congrats, and have fun with it. Let us know how the install goes, and your experience with the mic placement

I ended up buying a brand new MyGig kit, and it will be here early next week.

I was wondering, for the people who have added these after market, am I going to have to go to the dealer to get them to activate this with the dealer "scan tool"?

Mine just plugged in and worked but it was previously installed in another Jeep.

I had the dealer install U-Connect in my Mountain. I had them put the mic next to the radio instead of where the instructions said to put it. I have had no complaints.
