my friends ended up spilling 2 beers in the backseat of my jeep this past weekend, but it was on the plastic floor mats which have been taken out and rinsed off. however, there is still a moldy smell in my jeep, do I have to take out the carpet you think? or just use air-fresheners?
If it's warm where you live and you have the time to baby sit it, I'd just take out the mats, pop the doors off (or prop them open) and just pull the drain plugs and carefully hose out the carpet. Then allow it to sit open till its dry. I'd also pop the top open, if that's an option, just to help it dry faster.
When it's dry, if you still have a smell, then you could look at taking the carpet out. Just seems like once you take it out the first time, it never goes back in quite as nicely.
If you don't have time to clean it out right away, go to Home Depot and look for a product called OdoBan. They sell it in small cans that you can stash under your seat. It's a solid, so you don't have to worry about it spilling. They also have a spray, if you'd rather just spray the carpets. If it can kill the smell in my son's cleats, it should be able to kill moldy beer smell.
Have one of the mobile carpet cleaning vans come and steam and shampoo the carpet. Probably only charge you $20-$30. If you really want to get it done quickly, drive by a local apartment complex. They're always around there cleaning out apartments.
Take JEEP to said "friends" and say "Clean it up so there is no smell"
